Not sure if you've fixed your problem yet. I would use a primer that's high heat, yet I've never used a primer for exhaust stuff. And then follow up with black caliper spray paint.

I think the heat in the exhaust might be helping with the adhesion.

I was skeptical at first as well, but at $50 it wasn't a big risk. There are of course expensive carbon fiber tips as well that go all the way back, but may not be worth the price.

FCX5, how are those tips holding for you? I got similar to yours from Amazon (may be the same factory in China ). I have not installed them yet. I am wondering if that adhesive tape is sufficient? Also how long are yours? Mine are 49mm +/- 1mm and seem ok.

The ones I got were super cheap but, a bit wavy on the top and the bottom (that may be the reason for discount). I tried "dry" fit one and it fits like a glove.

Perfect. Through all weather conditions. If anything, it's even more solid than my front diffuser that was installed with beta link by the dealer.

I bought these from Amazon and fitted them on my X5. I added more 3m tape and I clean the OEM tips very well with Isopropyl alcohol. They have been on the X for about 3-4 months. I would saw they are not as glossy as they were when I installed them.

Thanks for the follow-up man.

I actually had purchased a new muffler and powdercoated the tips. All of my problems were with the stock muffler and the DIY spraypaint.

Oh well, looked good while it lasted. Time to try out those ebay slip on covers. Don't know only one side peeled as they were prepped and painted identically. Must be due to passenger side not flowing exhaust all the time.

Mine did same thing but on passenger side. I figured maybe it didn't cure because that tip is less hot. Now it's too cold to repaint so have to drive around looking ghetto.

I decided to buy some of these. I'll report back as to how I get on. I notice they are now selling carbon fiber "looking" variants now. Probably complete tat, but worth a shot.

What color of the car is that? Looks cool. I painted my by the dealership, five years later still on. I guess it may depend on the engine and heat from
Exhaust. Saw an M50d original oxydized and looks worse than mine

Wouldn't have thought that, silver is usually quite common. This is my 3rd silver BMW, really wanted Alpine White or Space Gray, but when buying used you take what you can get.

Well i "stuck" (literally) my $30 black exhaust tip covers over the M-sport exhaust tips and I have to say, I think they look great. Now how long they will remain all nice and shiny we will have to see ... but if you want a quick solution then this might be for you.

Finally got some time to wash my car and was only a few steps away from installation of the tips, so I did it. I used a brake cleaner to clean the exhaust surface and hairdryer to heat up the adhesive tape. Looks alright. Before and after attached.
