Unable to Reset Brake Pad Service

Hey all - I followed the Brake Pad reset procedure, but it fails to reset the service interval. Is there something else I am missing? I did not replace the brake pad wear sensor since it had not been worn through.

Put the parking brake on, then you will be able to reset.

Ok, then it's the brake pad wear sensor. You need to replace it.

This is usually due to the sensor. Try disconnecting the sensor and jumper the wires while trying to reset.

Alright, I'll give the sensors a try... I usually just zip tied them out of the way on my 1 series without issue, but that is a 2012.

Thanks.

You might have to use Ista to reset it. Had the same issue but my break pad sensor was destroyed ( I have no idea how). When I replaced it the display only reset to 6000 miles, did it with Ista afterwards and boom 30000 miles until next replacement

Was your sensor worn out? I saw many ppl changed brake pad w/o replacing sensors and they don't have issue at all.

Worn out or just failed due to heat/age, I would be pleased with such a simple fix.

I have reused sensors in the past, but before this thread, never considered they could cause issues if they didn't actually make contact with the disc.

I've also seen the sensor cut off and the wires just twisted together which would eliminate any further sensor issues.

Both of the original sensors were intact i.e. had not come into contact with the rotor at 45k miles.

I should have tried un-plugging and reconnecting the original sensors to see if that did the trick. I had limited time so, just threw new ones in vs experimenting. My theory is that unplugging and reconnecting the sensor must trigger something to allow a reset, probably could have saved $45 doing that oh well.

I still think they were internally damaged in some way.

Thanks! Turning off the parking brake allowed me to reset the front brake pad maintenance interval. I had already replaced the wear sensor yet it still wouldn't let me reset the maintenance light. Seems silly to me that the rear wheel parking brake influences the front brake pad maintenance indicator...but it does.
