I guess I won't be selling you anymore Conti DWS anymore--I see you're in an X5M now, or have been!! I'm joining the F85 ranks tomorrow

BTW, is this subforum pretty quiet? I guess the F85/6 is old news now! Haha

As was mentioned it was around 40k miles when my front breaks were done.

My iDrive was set to 37k for next front break service when I picked it up from this servicing.

There is a PuMA for this from BMW.
Parts need to come direct from Germany.

Note that brake squeal is correlated to moisture in the air as well as both air and brake temperature.

Do you have any info on that? Is it only for Canada?

From what I saw it was global and specifically for the front only of X5M and X6M.

I know that they were required to do specific tests and it had to be signed off by the Service Manager prior to the work being authorized.

Will try and get a copy of the PuMA today.

Did, 2+ hours of highway and city driving in ambient temp of around 23c (dry). So far brake squeal is down 98%+....will report back regularly.

So what parts came from Germany? The write up did not indicate installation of anything new although it indicated "parts are here". Different brake pads?

What I was told weeks ago was that all front discs and pads were to be replaced. It sounded like only the pads were the issue but since they were burned in together, they were to replace both.

That being said, the way the work order reads makes that suspect.

I have an inquiry in to the service advisor who wasn't around when I picked the vehicle up. Will update.

Glad I haven't bought new pads and rotors for the the M calipers I just picked up. Was thinking about picking up some open slotted two piece from racingbrake.

Thanks for sharing this information... I've always noticed this noise coming only from the front brakes, so this makes sense; and having the puma case number definitely will give me something more tangible to work with in order to get something done about it the next time I take the X6M in for service.

I updated in another thread that it turned out I already had the new brakes and didn't need the ordered parts.

They worked on the brakes as per that PUMA # and it has reduced noise by >90%.

That's awesome it worked... seems it took awhile for an official fix if the puma measure just came out in June. I had this issue on the front brakes since Day 1, and depending on various conditions, it can be pretty awful sounding. Calling today to make an appt since unrelated, truck threw a rock and chipped windshield, so need to take it into the dealer anyway for a new one of those.

My brake squeal is insane - very frustrating.

The puma below was looked up on my end in Australia and I read what came up. While it included the F85, it didn’t really go into detail or offer a solution?

Can anyone be more specific, double check the Puma number and advise what was changed exactly?

My car is a late 2017 build.

Yup and sanded the surfaces.

I admit, I thought (think) it was weak.

Squeal was 0% when driving away and is now at maybe 10% of what it used to be. So, massive improvement but will see if it lasts.

Ya what we need to find out now is if the oem pads don't already come chamfered at all. Which would be insane on a high performance vehicle. Hell even some bargain pads from autozone would come chamfered these days. So that was a bit concerning when I read that as well. Just makes me laugh when originally everyone was posting that dumb Porsche YouTube video about how they're bakes are so advanced that they resonance in the high quality material is always gonna squeal blah blah blah. Meanwhile BMW was just lazy and bought cheap pads from the 80s to his behind their brembo brake system. Doesn't surprise me given they still have a sliding single piston rear caliper even on carbon ceramic brakes.
