I just bought a new one from LL Bean because I had a 20% off coupon from them, and it was time to replace the old one. It seems good so far, light, fluffy, soft and warm, but not too warm where I can't use my heated mattress pad on low.

There are alternate materials you may enjoy better, such as Alpaca...just throwing ideas out.

Here's what you want:

1. Baffled or Boxed design
2. Fill Power. 400-500 light duty but still pretty warm. 700 or higher if you live way up North!
3. Thread count of 400 and up (keeps all those feathers from leaking out.

A duvet or cover is a good idea but we don't cover ours. It's nice and white and super plush!

Good luck.

I went through I can't even begin to tell you the number of comforters... Finally found one that I have kept...

Eddie Bauer... Never even thought to check with them but yeah... A little pricey but they have sales a couple of times a year... Baffle design is excellent and fill power is not to shabby... *edit* holy crap they are having a big sale right now...

http://www.eddiebauer.com/product/su...home&color=500

Would also look into the following and see if they have down comforters -

http://www.parachutehome.com/
http://www.brooklinen.com/

Highly recommend their duvet covers / sheets etc...

I don't get how people can sleep with that many layers.

I have a king size plush blanket or something on top and I rarely use that as it is in the middle of winter. Summer I never use sheets even with the ac on.

Because some people live in cold climates and/or might not have best insulation and/or want to keep heating bills low

Baavet

We use these and have been very pleased with the experience. They offer several different "weights"; here in Germany we have used the medium weight and found it to be perfect for this climate.

We replaced our expensive down comforters with Baavet.
Cheers,
Chad

This isn't really a thread is it? I'm not judging.

Seriously - 'comforter' is code for something, and this thread has nothing to do with bedding.
