I like that this gen definitely looks much more distinct from the regular Golf and GTI. The MK7 R is a bit understated, which I sometimes like, but sometimes I wish I didn't have to look twice to see whether that's an R in the distance. I just hope they don't go too far in this direction and end up like a Civic Type R that just screams at first sight.

I like that they’re subtle looking. They’re a little expensive relative to the GTi, which is arguably more fun, but I get wanting all wheel drive too. Here in Seattle the ground is wet most of the time and I’m sure a gti has tons of wheel spin with all that torque. Ultimately even the R is a little soft core for me at the end of the day, but I see the appeal.

That subtle look is part of the draw for me. Picked up this lightly used "R" in July and have quickly become a fan. It does so many things well...a true joy to play with.

"Power will still be supplied by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, albeit with new features, such as variable valve timing with dual camshaft adjustment and water-cooled exhaust gas that routes to the turbo in the cylinder head."
Not up on the turbo jargon but it sounds like the turbo in the cylinder head and isn't that a bad idea? Also not a fan of the front end.. or the ipads.. Happy with the 7 / 7.5 for an all rounder, more spacious than my e90 sedan. |

Pointless without the manual. The VW GTI / R had one of the highest take rates on manual (behind the Miata).

That's one thing I like about RS for Audi...there is no "RS Line" packages available. It's either RS or it's not.
