I'm having the same issue with my BMW same year and same model. Bought it used with 18000 miles, now it has 23000 and have had 2 add oil twice. Doesn't seem right.

It is not uncommon for these beasts to consume a quart of oil every 1000 miles. My X5M consumes oil. I'm having my oil changed next Wednesday, and switching to Liqui Moly 5W-40, and also adding 2 bottles of their Liqui Moly Ceratec. Hoping, that this will help mitigate the consumption issue.

Liqui Moly

Liqui Moly also makes pre- oil change engine oil flushes that look great, and some fuel treatments that look pretty good too. |

The other day, I put in a bottle of the Liqui Moly Jetron fuel injector cleaner. I don't currently have any issues, just more preventative maintenance.
I heard of Motul, might try that at my next oil change. First, I have to see how Liqui Moly holds up

Some have suggested, that our oil consumption issue is related to leaking valve seals.
I know the turbos consume a lot of oil, more so if your getting on it.

I appreciate bumping this thread. I am keeping my F85 on a 5K oil change schedule for the time being. I purchased the car with 26,9XX miles and just flipped 31K so I took it in. Per my SA, everything looked good, but understood the desired 5K schedule.

I'm using the bmw 0w30 and put in a litre every 8000 miles, this doesn't seem to change from b road blasts to long road trips. I guess the uk recommends different grades to you guys. How much is a quart anyway? I was told not to add oil between min and max on the digital dipstick. Simply when it gets to the bottom Mark add a litre and all done. This is what I've done after the approx 8000 miles and no issues

Valve stem seals are the achilles heal of all s63/n63 and TU variants.
They all use the exact same valve stem seals, and the n63 had it the worst due to its poor thermal management, air filter design that acted as heat blankets for the valve covers, and higher oil temps. My n63 went from consuming a quart every 700 miles to less then half a quart every 5000 mile oil change just from replacing the valve stem seals. I replaced them at 138,000 miles and currently at 168,000 miles. The valve stem seals themselves are cheap, 200 dollars for a complete set. It's the 50+ hours of labor that's kills you. It's a 4 to 5 thousand dollar repair at BMW. Expect it to be a little higher on a F85/86 because M tax. A few things you can do to make your valve stem seals last as long as possible: 1 - Highly recommend liqui moly 5-40 and Ceretec(every 50k miles)or Mos2 additive. Change every 5k. 2 - Always Be Moving - Avoid bumper to bumper traffic and being stuck in traffic if at all possible. Take the highway, even if it's the long way. Heat saturation is what kills all the rubber and plastic bits under your hood, valve stem seals included. 3 - Leave your hood up if possible when you come home or any time in a secure location. It's a bit of a pain but does make a difference. |

You must have read my mind, as I have just purchased Liqui Moly 5W-40 and Mos2 Additive. I'm looking at buying two bottles of Ceratec for both the X5M and E63.
It's funny, but the AMG has 94xxx miles, and consumes 1 qt a year. And the X5M requires 1 qt every 3-4 months
