Used X6 M...Worth it?
Hey all...I'm starting to look for my next car, and I've really come to like the X6 M. Love the styling, obviously the performance is hard to beat, and even in Southern California, you hardly ever see them. I'm specifically looking at 2015-2017 models, given how much I want to spend. Pretty sure this will be what I end up buying, but I wanted to get insight from some people who would know about maintenance and reliability. I'm not naive, and I know cars like this will cost more to maintain than say a Honda Accord. But I also don't want to be shocked by unexpected repairs and be spending thousands of unplanned dollars every year. I've heard everything from these hold up very well, to something random breaks and cost upwards of $10k, so I'd like to hear what people have actually experienced. I'd be looking for something under 50,000 miles with a clean history. I would imagine factory warranties would already be expired or at least close to it, so are extended warranties available and worth it? Wife has a company car that we put most of our miles on, so I don't drive a whole lot, under 10,000 miles a year. Would be looking to keep it for at least 5 years, probably longer. Any and all advice appreciated, thanks!!

You can buy awesome 5-yr warranty for about $3k. This is missing B&O sound if that's something you're looking for. |

I absolutely love my 2015 X5M, wouldn't trade it for the world. The look, the power, all that beautiful leather and carbon fiber, it's heard to beat. The only thing that really beats it is the Trail Hawk, and possibly the Ranger Rover Sport SVR. But I wouldn't want either of them.

I'm from over the pond in the UK and I've been super happy with my X6 M.
I've extended the BMW Warranty, over here the manufacturer warranty runs out at 60k miles or 3 years but it's possible to keep extending it for sensible cost as long as the vehicle has less than 100k miles on the clock. Had mine almost 2 years and touch wood nothing has gone wrong with it. Aside from routine maintenance (which is a little more expensive than a regular BMW because of what I call the 'M Tax' ). |

Try searching this forum, there's a number of threads on this. Here's a few that mention maintenance:
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ht=maintenance https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ht=maintenance https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ht=maintenance Keep in mind these vehicles were over $100K new, and maintenance costs will reflect that when something does fail. The inevitable stuff like tires and brakes are expensive if you're not coming from another similar vehicle/not used to it. Unless your a DIY'er, a brake job, depending on where you take it, could be several thousand dollars. A set of OEM spec 21" tires will run $1500-$2000, and these vehicles eat through tires - by 20,000 miles they'll be nearing the end of their useful life. Not trying to scare you off, but it's a $100K+ BMW twin turbo V8 with an ///M badge on the back, any repairs that do surface can potentially be very expensive. |
