Anyone had a muffler delete on 50i?

Finally found time to do this. 3" X-Pipe, 3" Mandrel Bent tail sections w/ v-bands, 4" quad tips.

I have no regrets. All in- about $600 to do it myself. Tri-mix gas for welding SS is $$$ and obviously mandrel tubing/v-bands aren't required but it's how I wanted to do it.

Still shocked how good that engine sounds by just cutting the muffler off. Deep rumble at idle, pops and turbo whine during rev's. I do get a drone on the highway but sport mode drops a gear and its gone.

Most of my time was spent aligning the tips. The space for the tips is not very deep and I can understand why you see most tips angled out to the side, up and too far out when doing this mod.

Looks great and love those wheels. For most of us, the x-pipe eliminated the drone

Probably slightly but I don't think that you can hear the difference inside the cabin.

I did the muffler delete yesterday and replaced it with two separate straight 2.5inch pipes. It sounded quite mean but cold starts weren't too pleasing and the drone between shifts were annoying. I will post a video of the cold start! Solme may have liked it but to me it was too much for a classy SAV.

HOWEVER!!! I went back to my muffler shop today and had a non-resonated x-pipe installed and it's PERFECT so far. I can't comment on cold starts yet but regular driving is great with the shift pops being more pronounced but not overbearing in sport and sport+ mode. The shift pops or burble is virtually eliminated in comfort and eco pro mode. I have only been up to 55mph in 8th and experienced zero drone.

The sound so far is a nice v8 rumble that only my gets loud when you go WOT otherwise it's a mellow tone that suitable for the vehicles character.

I haven't noticed a loss in power but there is a definite weight savings with the muffler removal.

I've invested $260 so far since I went twice to get work done. I will get some external and internal video later.

At this point I am VERY happy! Before the X-pipe, I was not.

Hey TheLastDetailNV I know it's been a while since you were active on this thread but I'm in Las Vegas and looking to do the same thing. Are you still happy with your delete? Also, what shop did you get this done at?

I finally found someone to do this mod for me a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier. $280 installed, I supplied the parts. The car sounds fantastic and is so much more fun now. Extremely happy with this mod.
If you're on the fence, just do it.

I got the tips from a friend who bought them for his AMG but did not install.

Before i start, i drive a 2016 BMW X6 50i. The exhaust is not underneath the bumper but rather goes through the bumper, if that makes sense.

My questions:
1. Can this be done to an X6? i see that this is the x5/x6 forum but havent seen any X6 posts/ success stories
2. Am I on the right thread to find this information to be done to an x6? If not, can someone please post the link or a direct link to a thread where i can find this information?
3. I have the weird shaped exhaust tips, can i go with a quad tip?

Pretty much the exact same job. If you read through the thread or look at the post right above your post, you'll see that the x5 50i also has weire shaped tips that go through the bumper.

You need to measure the available space and choose the quad tips accordingly. AFAIK the vehicles with M Sports package have an OEM rear muffler with exhaust flap.

I copied the hufington setup as well. Logged about 1,500kms on it so far. I have a pretty annoying drone at 1000-1700 rpm.

Currently thinking of adding a Helmholtz resonator or swapping out one of the Vibrant 1792 bottle resonators to the Vibrant 1141 Ultra Quiet. Either way though the drone is getting to me.

Yea I have the same drone in the 1300-1500 range with my Borla setup. It is annoying and I thought about trying to do a Helmholtz chamber but according to my calculations, it would have to be pretty long to knock out the resonance in that range. So for now, I just pop it into Sport mode and all is good.

Interesting. I have no drone. I'd hate it if I had it. Maybe the X-pipe is the section that cancels the drone on mine.

Im interested to change the exhaust setup but im not sure whats the best setup for the sound
