Warranty
Hi All,
I just bought a 2017 BMX X5M with 34k miles from a non BMW dealer. The previous owner bought it certified pre owned in December and traded it for a larger luxury SUV. The car I bought has a clean car fax but is out of warranty outside of a 2k warranty from the dealer. The dealer showed me a third party warranty I could purchase for $4k, I said no. I have a close friend that is a master mechanic and has a garage at his house so he can do brakes and other maintenance jobs inexpensively. My question is would you look to purchase a warranty? Thanks |

I bought my 18 a month ago with 16k miles CPO. Warrantied for another ~19 months with CPO.
I bought the maintenance plan as I know I'll go through a set of brakes before then and it'll need oil twice and a set of spark plugs which is fair considering me doing my own brakes with OEM parts is almost $2K. I normally work on my own stuff and I realize what owning this beast entails but the dealer wanted I think 7K for the cheapest bmw warranty at the time or 5k for an aftermarket which would of covered me for like 17 months past CPO which isn't worth it in my opinion. I'm open to looking at warranty options but at the end of the day I will probably either dump it when CPO is up or modify it.

Update guys, I spoke to the dealership that certified the car and they told me there is a year left on the CPO warranty, they also said I could extend before this expires. This is much better than only a 2k warranty I originally thought the car had.
A bit strange but I did talk to BMWNA and they told me the warranty expired and were unaware of a CPO warranty, any thoughts on that? |

Two suggestions

2) Work with your dealer's business office to align them with BMWNA and make sure that this CPO is real and recognized. |

Circling back,
if you login to bmwusa on your computer they should give you whatever options you are eligible for. I ended up having to click the following my garage -> View vehicle profile -> Warranty and service. This lists all my current warranties. It does not list CPO for some reason however when I scroll down I see "CPO Extensions" which allow me to extend to 6 or 7 years so there is that. It also shows me my maintenance plan, as well as pricing to extend it. This brings me back so apparently my options to extend the CPO warranty through BMW was 6 years so (+1 year) from CPO for $5150 or 7 years (+2 year) from CPO for 7000.

What did you end up doing?
I still have 4 months of OEM Manufacturer Warranty and 4 months of Ultimate Care +1 BMW of Brooklyn is charging $450+tax for an "extensive" PPI so I'm shopping around for something cheaper since it sounds like most PPIs are $150-200. The OEM Warranty transfers automatically, but they said I'd have to pay a refresh fee (prorated) if I want to keep the Ultimate Care +1. Cost is TBD, said I have to do it in person b/c they need to do a key read out on the car. |
