shoping for BMW X5 35i extended warranty

I got something really weired when shopping for a platinum 72M/75K warranty for my 2015 X5 35i xDrive (almost 4-year old, with 28k miles). I called a dealer last month, and the guy on the phone just asked my model (X5 35i xdrive) and gave me $4799 quote for BMW Platinum 72M/75K warranty, which is exactly the same as P1et's "MSRP" numbers in another post (https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1448311&page=3).

Then I got busy and didn't do it until this month (my X5's warranty expires this month). This morning I called several dealers, suddenly they all quoted me $5799 for the same 72M/75k Platinum warranty ... and oddly everyone on the phone says that the previous $4799 quote must be a mistake ...

What's going on? I can think of five possible explanations:

1. The $4799 quote was a mistake (but it does matches P1et's number exactly ...);
2. The $5799 quotes are all obtained by entering my VIN. So there is something about my particular car that raises the warranty premium (e.g., 28k low mileage, or having a minor accident with rear bumper replaced)?
3. BMW extended warranty has a different price if you purchase in the same month as original warranty expires (if so, shame on BMW);
4. BMW extended warranty price was raised very recently (I should've pulled the trigger last month)
5. All dealers I called today coincidentally added $1000 profit on top of $4799 MSRP at the same time?

I'm very confused. Anyone here can confirm what's MSRP for platinum 72M/75k miles for a 2015 BMW X5 35i xDrive? Should it really be $5799 instead of $4799 right now? Also, any 3rd-party warranty to recommend?

Here is the quote I received for my 2016
“$6000.00 84MO/100K FROM ISD”
That was in May 2018 and I had around 24k miles on it.

Your price is largely on par with P1et's post as well as the first quote I got last month. The new quotes I got today are all insane --- $5799 for 72MO/75K is nuts ...

Yes it’s steep for what you get, I’m still on the fence.

Yon can try to get a quote now. Maybe the price has raised ... I read in another post of similar story (warranty price increased in a few months time)

I’m hoping to get in touch with the guy who originally gave me the $4799 quote to verify what’s going on.

I’ll send him an email and see where we are at. My mileage has went up significantly so that’ll fudge the results a bit.
Good luck though, it’s a tough call.

I'd skip the warranty. 35i is pretty reliable.
Got over 100k miles with no issues.

Just want to report back on what happened next:

1. Finally get hold of the dealer I originally contacted last month -- and they still honor the $4799 quote for platinum 72month/75k miles. I believe this is the "MSRP" price. Obviously all other dealers in my area are just ripping people off on warranty pricing (MSRP + 1000 is just insane).

2. Jeff Steel @ Passport BMW is great and offers very competitive pricing and relatively simple procedure if you don't mind purchasing remotely. Highly recommend.

Indeed. On average you'll definite lose money buying an extended warranty. It's more about giving a peace of mind.
