System Shut Down / Warning Lights
Weird thing happened today, my idrive screen reset early this morning while driving in which I didn't think much of it as this seems to sometimes happen.
Fast forward 4 hours, as I am driving down the tollway at 70mph all bells and whistles (every warning light and message) go off in the HUD and dash, speedo doesn't work, AC shuts off but starts blowing heat in the footwell, idrive screen goes blank. I took the next exit to pull into a parking lot to see if turning it off for a bit will reset the system. No dice, push the start button and the dash lights up all the bells and whistles, still no AC and idrive to top it all off it won't start. So I wait so more with much of the same result. In the end I called BMW roadside and they had it towed to the dealership which was only a couple miles away. They put me in a loaner and said they would check it out. Has this happened to anyone else, any ideas as to what could be going on? 2018 Xdrive 35i 19k miles |

Just to close the loop on this in case anyone else is in this situation, I talked to the SA today and he said all the codes indicated a bad battery in which they replaced under warranty. I asked how a car with 19k miles on it could have a bad battery and he was stumped.
At any rate if your car throws every warning light, turns off the AC, turns off the idrive and won't start it is probably a bad battery. |

My guess that you are typically driving for a short distances and BMW battery charging strategy doesn’t like that.
Ask your dealership to recode your car for the short distances. |

Thanks! I will stop by and ask them to reprogram if they haven't already. |

Or get an "intelligent" or "advanced" battery charger/maintainer/tender and hook it up to the jump start terminals in the engine bay a couple of times a month or on the weekends or anytime convenient when you're not driving it. It will go a long way in maintaining and keeping your battery from going into a state of discharge. The money spent on the charger will be worth the headache of having your battery go haywire on you do to a slow/early death.

There was a SIB out that had dealers replacing batteries every other oil change. Was changed in early 2019 to drop the X15 off the list.
Wasn't done on car we bought CPO. By being very persistent I got my dealer to replace it.

That would be my guess too. A lot of short (start/stop) trips - and using a lot of electronics while driving can prematurely shorten battery life.
