Hey Ben been following the thread and am picking up my 2018 X5 drive 35i M sport next month. Do you have any Racechip Black GTS with app control in stock or will soon and do you ship to APO? Currently deployed over in Stuttgart Germany.

Help with the wiring harness connectors

I removed the engine cover, the air filter box, and was able to access the two wiring harness connectors. Is there magic to taking them off? The one on the side doesn't seem to have any locking mechanisms (no moving parts) so do I just yank on it? I pulled very hard on it but it would not move. I tried wiggling it but it would not budge. About the same story with the one behind the air filter housing as well.

There is a small locking/securing tab, be careful. I broke the one under the air intake on my F16.

I attached a picture. Can you point me where the tab is and how I move/unlock this tab?

Locking tabs

The locking tabs do unlatch, but they tend to stick, and the plug itself tends to stick. I suggest using 6" channellock pliers to gently wiggle the plug to make sure it will slide off.

I got impatient and broke the tab off the MAF sensor, so now it is held in place with two wire ties. Much easier to disconnect next time. :-)

I will say, the Race Chip RS is noticeable, especially with a brake-torqued launch. And 100-120 seemed to take significantly less time. Mileage was down while flooring it, so it does seem to be using more juice.

Not bad for the price and time invested, though I have to say the person(s) who okayed the instructions should be placed in a bag and beaten with sticks.

they have a direct customer service line that you can call. Im sure that they have a pic or two to show you where things go. With the TT models, A and B go to the TMAP sensors and they are not side specific.

So those two tiny plastic tabs on top are supposed to move? They had 0 give! Which one moves... the top one or the bottom one?

I'm giving up on installing this and going to return it. Still can't figure out how to remove it. Response back from Racechip was basically "remove the plug" Will just get the MPPK.

Here is the trick on the plug.
Somehow BMW uses a plug that have soft plastic. Whenever you press the tab to unclip, the front end that's holding it in place doesn't lift up.

So, instead, use small flat screwdriver or a pick to lift the front end of the plug where the clip is.

I hope that help.

I bought it used from a forum member here, who stated that it was made for n55 engine. Its a RCU, non connect version. The weird thing is that it came with b8722 harness, instead of 8720, I couldn't find any information about this particular 8722 one on google. Both purple plugs fit both of my sensors map and tmap, so I followed instructions (A-turbo-I plugged into the sensor on the charge pipe, B-intake manifold-sensor behind the airbox?) both connectors were tight and clicked in. I used the selector S2-C, S1-1. I also have the MPPK installed..
Thanks for your time)
Harness 8722 is correct.

Switch selector default is S2=B, S1=1

I still need pictures.

Do you want the RS or GTS Black?
With or without app function?
Wanna give it another try tomorrow. Do these connectors look fine? Seems like a pice of plastic broke off from both plugs?

CEL

35i gasoline M-Sport (stock setting B/1)
MPPK
RaceChip Ultimate

I've read many of the posts here about RC settings and would like to get a bit more performance out of the N55, but any setting higher than stock (C or D) throws a CEL in the first 30 miles.

I primarily drive in comfort mode but will use sport at times.

Would love some guidance from the RC pros out there.

If I remember correctly, there are two disks in the RCU, one of them you aren’t supposed to change. I believe that Kzang has a thread on here with the details on best settings. I could be wrong on who started it though.

This is another reason to upgrade to the GTS Black, they’re all preset to Eco, Sport, Race modes and change with the click of the app.

Does the CEL go away on its own? Did you read the codes? If so, what are they?

Miles? New spark plugs?

You are correct. From what I've read, only the S2 dial should be changed. While I agree with you that the upgrade is much nicer, I've spent the $$ on what I've got so I'd like to make it work.

51k miles 2015
Don't know about the plugs

Will pull the CEL when I get home next week. In the past I've just reset it without checking the codes.

Thanks for the response!

RCU installed

Just added the RCU to my 2014 35i this morning. Set S2=B which is supposed to be the stock setting. A quick 10 minute run shows a bit more low-end power and lots of new "whooshing" noises. Likley due to the increased boost. I'll give a a few hundred miles before moving to level C.

Thanks to everyone on this thread with the details on the install and settings.
