Exhaust Solenoid Valve Mod for '16 X5 non M
BMW incorporated a non golf tee mod and I'm trying to figure out how to keep the right side vale open full time.
I started the car cold (in sport mode even) and while the valve was open I unsnapped and pulled the wiring away. The valve closed anyways! This unit does not use a hose or arm/ rod assy. I have searched this forum and googled but everything shows for older cars and the golf tee mod. Can it be done on 2015/16 X5 3.5i? |

You've got a couple options it seems, from a quick Google search:
-Put the car in Sport+, Rev the Engine, Shut the Engine Off, and Unplug the electrical connection to muffler flap -Go with a Macht Schnell Exhaust Valve Control (EVC) module The latter seems more common with the F85 guys, although its pricey.

Unfortunately there is no Sport+ in the regular X5.
I tried to wire the clamp open and then I tried a clamp while the engine was running. Neither worked. |

Impressions
INSTALLED With the valve controller you can choose to open them all the time. Have MPE and it's made a great difference. You don't realize how often the valves are closed in the OEM factory setup regardless of sport or sport plus mode. True they open when you floor it but the noise from 1000-3000rpm is far better with valves forced open.
An additional benefit of an open valve is a much more prolific bark when you lift off the pedal quickly and the pressure dumps. It's really quite loud and puts a a smile on my face. Overrun burble is also louder as in both these situations with the OEM setup the valves would be closed. If you've spent the money for the MPE, the valve controller will make the most of it. |
