MSport X5 M Badge at Factory?
Hi guys,
First off - I want to thank ALL of you for helping me during the purchase of recent X5. I never posted but I checked all these threads and found out so much. Initial question was 50i vs 35i and I was leaning towards 50 until I read the boards and heard about all the concerns but more importantly, I test drove it and just felt like it didn't handle as well as the 35i. Weird but where I live, that additional power would have made things just a pain vs joy. Fast forward, I have a CPO 16 X5 Msport, completely loaded interior, metallic white and just love it. I have an appointment for MPPK and MPE for this Thursday so checking that box. I actually am impressed with the stock power and even the exhaust especially at start up on the sport is nice but I know those two are no brainers. Here's the question - I see msport X5s with an actual M badge on them on the outside by the doors that appear to be factory. Mine didn't come with those so maybe it's a EUR thing? Is that the case? It's exactly the ///M logo and they are on the doors each side. If that's the case, where is the best place to buy them now and put them on for NA b/c I feel like we deserve those! Also - I see some guys have red break pads/mechs inside there tires. Look cool. Where to get those? Same question on the quad exhaust - that looks sweet. Congrats on the new X5! The 35i is a great choice.
If you say that it’s plenty powerful and sounds good, have you verified that it doesn’t already have the MPPK and MPE? Don’t expect the dealer to know/tell you, for the most part they’re clueless. The small ///M badge on the front fender is standard on euro spec MSport vehicles, others are added. You can buy them online or at your dealer. I haven’t seen many red calipers, blue is normal on BMW since the ///M and MPBK are blue. Last edited by Violator; 01-08-2019 at 07:17 PM.. Reason: Add pics |

I think the small M badge on the fender only came from the factory on the MY2014 M-Sport line in the US.
That said, debadge everything: save money and easier to clean.

So was it only on the left or both sides? I could have sworn I saw an EUR video with a stock msport with badges on both sides. I feel like if BMW is putting them on factory over seas, it's OK to put them on the same sides as my NA car.

Sorry! I was referring to the previous post. Thanks for confirming.
I'll ask the dealer how much - knowing them, could be 100. EBay is dicey and I looked at the reviews on amazon and many are low quality.....I'll continue looking. Hopefully the dealer isn't too bad. I would never do this myself but if ti's factory pressed in EUR, I think that makes it OK. Last edited by delt31; 01-08-2019 at 09:51 PM.. |

Do not add M badges. (There needs to be a capitalized period to emphasize this). Doesn't matter how many times you say "EU does it so that makes it ok". I also have a 2014 M sport 50i and it didn't come with M badges on the exterior.
Do NOT add fake metal covers to your brakes to make them look like something they're not. Cuz hint hint they still look fake. Exhaust tips can be found in the exhaust thread. Search and you shall find. They're all generic eBay or amazon. Sorry but no.

Again, before heading to the dealer for the MPE & MPPK install, verify that yours doesn’t already have it.
Use the Sport display to verify MPPK Look at the muffler, for a part number and if the tips are removable to verify the MPE. I say this because most people don’t say “I think it has plenty of power and sounds great” for the stock 35i MSport. Just an idea. |

As for the fender - not sure what name of it is but it's basically black that goes inside the air holes that are on both sides of the car. The grey car pic in this thread has them.... |

Yes, Ben/RGSport sells them. I bought mine from him, as many others on here have. I believe he sells the small M logo too.
http://www.rgsportshop.com/index.php...ry&path=59_153 No, the muffler doesn’t say MPE or anything on it. It should have a part number on it, and if it’s MPE the tips can be removed, versus a solid pipe. |

Adding an ///M badge to your car is always an interesting topic here. Most would advise against it, including myself, but understand my preference isn't everyone's.
I too have a MY14 50i without the side ///M badges. Even if mine had it, it would have been removed with the rest of the badges including the Xdrive 50i on the sides. It really boils down to trying to make it seem like a car that it is not. Although there are factory installed side ///M badges on some US 50i's, since yours isnt a 50i and would give off the impression that it is. Congrats on the truck by the way. |

Yes, unless the model is designated ///M (M5, M3, M2, M235/40*I grudgingly allow it), there should be no external ///M badges.
When I was in Scotland 18 months ago, I swear every BMW I saw had ///M badges and they looked factory. Found out that outside of the US if a car just has sport pkg it gets them from the factory, perhaps ///M sport pkg cars have more or diff ones than just sport pkg lol. Guess its become overkill in the past few years. Unfortunately it is coming to the US and all the factory ///M badging on non-Ms will be here soon. I blame Audi and all their stupid S line badging. Do what you like and what pleases your eyes. People here will be telling you what is right and what is wrong, but in fact they are just presenting their subjective opinions.
F15 X5 35i M-Sport was coming with side M badge from the factory when intended for European market and other markets outside of North America. It was not isolated to 50i M-Sport. Even 330i (G20) M sport comes with M side badges in Europe. BMW's with Sport package (not "M-Sport" package) would come without it there. Also there would be a Sport steering wheel, not M steering wheel etc. As for calling M side badge fake, well everyone is entitled to their opinion. When I purchased new 2009 E90 335i M-Sport Individual, it came from the factory with one-piece armrest. I wanted adjustable two-peace armrest that was not an option in US/Canada, I did purchase and install the sliding one from Europe. I do not think it was a “fake armrest”. Similarly when I got my 2018 X5 35d, I installed staggered 467M wheels. These wheels, although specific to F15, are not available in Canada as a factory option. I hope no one in Canada see them as “fake wheels”. Actually even Americans could, since you cannot get them staggered as factory option in US. Yet they where available as a factory option for non-M X5 in Europe. You are not trying to pretend you drive M car by putting M side badge on M-Sport trim BMW. It is something else than M badge on the trunk. I have done it, you may or may not like it. My DD is F80 and I for sure do not try to pretend I have two M cars in my garage. But again, this is just my opinion, YMMV. Enjoy the car! |

The discussion of fake is silly. Once i confirmed that BMW issued these badges on cars via factory, the fake conversation just fell apart. The damn maker is putting them on - case closed.
Here's the question - I'm not sure if I want to put badges on my car. Starting to like the ultra clean look.......hmmmm The fender black covers is def a potential though....maybe put the badge on the fender cover! haha |
