I have to admit that I've heard about this stereotype many years before I even owned my first BMW.

Pretty much true. It's a blend of the honest plus some mild jealousy over the perception of affluence. Mostly true imho.

There's a couple of big clues to indicate this is British/European centric. The "white van man" is a stereotype in Britain as almost every small business has a Ford Transit van, which now living in Texas I would compare to the pickup truck driver. Also the C Class in the UK is an extremely common fleet or travelling salesman vehicle so you see them often on the motorways doing 90mph.

Completely agree. Looking st the roads the old 3 series coupes have slowly become the new Honda civics in many ways. Nothing but a bunch of hooligans that drive around in their slammed 328ci etc with chrome tint and fart cans to complete the picture. Don't see that for old merge especially the c class coupe as it was one of the ugliest cars of all time. The small bmw coupe is a huge commodity for the late teen or college student with little money.
