E70...
However, the F15 interior is much improved; but, I'm not loving the exterior--too X3, CRV-ish. Perhaps it will look better with 20"s...

I wish I had the same attraction to this as I do the all-new RR Sport, but being a BMW fanboy, I imagine this may grow on me--maybe?

OT--Audi, just bring over the RS4 avant and I'll replace my X5d in a heartbeat

front fascia (headlights, bumper, grill) - F15
Hood - equal
side view mirrors - F15
profile - equal
greenhouse - E70, more sloped athletic
TAIL LAMPS - E70; OMG those F15 taillamps are fugly - look like a cheap ass X1.....
Interior - no comparison here, not even close F15; here's to some decent seats

**Disappointing that the dimensions are virtually identical between the 2 generations, implying that the 3rd row will once again be virtually useless unless you're between the ages of 6-10**

That interior is exciting to look at! I thought this was gonna be a bigger X3 from previous threads but now the photos of the actual truck is pretty muscular and aggressive!

not digging the wheels of the F15, but then again, i am not a fan of two-tone silver / black wheels in the first place.

this is definitely something that i want to see in person in order to see the size difference between the e70.

I'm disappointed that they dont put the third row seats as standard. That's the only reason I would consider this instead of a Q7 or GL-Class. Are they coming out with an X7 or something (i'm already imagining how bloated it would look, like a chiseled QX56)?

The X-line styling kit look similar to X1. Overall I think F15 is a very refreshing upgrade that makes the E70 look so dated next to it.

I always try to look at the half full of the glass...
With the recent evolution on SUV's from other automotive brands specially Mercedes, Audi and Infiniti, I was expecting a bigger entrance from "The Boss is Back"...
Now, I'm not questioning this new X5 by any means (with the exception of the Fog Lights placement?!); but I have some concerns:
- The car does not bring any new excitment as to "wow, I've got to own this car" or "damn, this will be my next BMW!"...
- I think it will do better in capturing new marketshare than "trade in's" from current BMW owners... As the owner of the new X3 and new 3 series, it doesn't really give me enough incentive to trade any of my 2 BMWs (once their time're up of course) for this X5.
- the interior is a major improvement to the previous model, but still it is in the "Me-too" market.
overall, I'm sure it will be a great car...but no Wow factor!

Wheels at the corners, plenty of camber, wide tires, sheet metal stretching to meet the wheel arches... What happened? Why did BMW move away from that aggressive design? The F15 looks pudgy in comparison.
I'm with this guy, while the F15 looks very nice, its just not as sporty as the outgoing model.

This just seems like a e70 LCI model... with tiny wheels/tires.

I agree but i think the rear taillights are way to wide and big on the liftgate. Would love to see the E70m bumper on the F15.

for me.. id take the E70 with the slim roof rails of the F15

It seems to be an evolution. I think I will end up with Range Rover Sport instead of X5 as RR Sport looks better, lighter and probably handles better.

The new X5 is slightly better than the X3. That's not saying much since the X3 is not balanced and just plain ugly.

The new X5 has too many lines up front, just too busy. And on the new M Sport those twin air dams looks like it's trying to eat up something. I think the designers are trying way too hard.

The old E70 X5 looks graceful and elegant. It took me a whole 2 seconds to fall in love with the E70 when it first came out. This new F15, just hideous.

They literally fixed everything wrong with the E70 interior (and a lot was wrong with it!). Love it.

The reason why the F15 doesn't look as sporty as the E70 in these photos is the due to the wheels/option differences. Once you see the F15 with the Msport 20"s and its a whole different ballgame. Even the current E70 looks hideous to me unless it has the 20" wheels and fender flares.

Edit - Optional 20"s with the Msport package with fender flares

Why are people afraid to say "I don't like it, it's ugly" ? A car should not "grow on you", it should look good from the beginning.

I remember when I first saw the e92 3-series coupe. I literally spent a day looking at the pictures, and it was beautiful from the first second and it still is.

Same with the current X5. It looked flawless from the beginning, no need to grow on me.

And now why should I expect the new X5 to "grow on me" ?

No, it's just plain ugly. Same as the current 1-series hatchback - hideous. And to an extent, same with the new F30 3-series sedan. Bland and boring.

On the other hand, the new 4-series and the new 2-series look beautiful from the first moment you look at them. No need to "grow on you".

Old one better then new one. in my opinion. it is sad.
old one makes sense when i look at it, it is massive, sporty, balanced, clear, the new one just exaggerated. the wheels on the new one look terrible. front is ugly, taillights over-sized, front bumper looks horrible.
why did they do this???

Totally agree on every point re x1, x5 and x4. E70 did look a bit dated in the standard comparison but the white m sport comparison confirms to me that it kicks all over the new one (in looks not tech and performance etc.). If someone hadn't seen either of them they might think the E70 was the update.

I love the new x5 but i do prefer the look of the previous one. To me it just looks a little more rugged and i prefer the front of the previous one. That being said i do prefer the look of the rear on the new one. Overall there both great i just like the older one a little bit better.
