I've just been reading and this Macht Schnell system sounds like it would be handy to close the valves on the go when i'm on the highway (to avoid drone), but still have an option to open them, even when in efficiency mode.

It just seems like a very expensive system.
How much is it? Is that supposed to some sort of exhaust mod too or just for the valves?

It simply controls the opening and closing of the valves. It costs $500 USD. Quite expensive when if all you want is open valves, you can disconnect the wires. So it's really only for those who want to be able to switch between open and closed on the go, without switching between Sport Plus (open all the time. and Efficiency (closed except for under hard throttle).

Would someone be able to please provide a picture of the wires taped up? As in where they have been taped and how? I don't want to mess it up

Anyone reckon this mod (unplugging the cables) would screw with warranty or anything?

You need to isolate the connectors with a proper tape , then attach the cable with a risen collar where you can

No worry about the warranty , you just let the valves open , nothing can happen

Alrighty, I'm just a little reluctant since I'm a bit of a car noob and don't want to end up attaching the cables to the some hot components or anything. If anyone has a picture to provide, please do

Sorry Ash777, I meant to reply to your PM.

I taped mine up (covering the end of the cable), but I just lopped it around itself more or less. I didn't tape it to the car as I too was worried about hot surfaces.

That said, I found that the stock exhaust drones quite a bit when in efficiency/D1 with this mod, so i've reversed it back to stock and plugged them in. It's much better.

Coding off ASD (or pulling the plug from the amp) is the best mod so far.

Resurrecting this thread.

Has anyone tried keeping the exhaust valves open and shutting off the ASD (either by unplugging it coding) to reduce the drone and low rpms?

Removing the Eisenmann race exhaust tomorrow bc my wife said she will kill me if I don't lol. I think she's kidding but I'm not willing to take chances 😂😂😂😂

When the exhaust sound resonates in the interior of the car, it makes a loud low pitches "booming" sound. Happens with some aftermarket systems.

Thank you; dumb follow up question but if I rev the motor a few times in Sport+ how do i know if the valve is open? I would like to confirm before pulling the plug but this is different than the F80 where you can see the valve open or closed.

You should hear the difference !

If you wanna really make sure , go to the back and have a look inside the tubes , you should see if the valve is open.

Check out the video I've posted on the previous page.

you can buy the ODB II wifi reader for 27 bucks and download bimmerlink app for 27 bucks and it allows you to open and close at your discretion with a touch of a button.

Old thread bump. Can you give more details about bimmerlink and opening the valves before I spend $27 😜

I’m on my second X5M and this time around I’ve basically just done the same thing. Unplug valves when open and tape up, plus turn off ASD.

I don’t notice any real drone at all.
