Muffler delete or resonator delete

Hello,

Have anyone done a muffler or resonator delete? How does it sound? And does it drone?

Thanks

I took out the resonators, which didn't do much.
We do a trick with the late model Corvette mufflers at my shop. I did the same thing to my 550i, M5 and now my X5 M.
I cut a window in the top of the muffler, pulled out all the packing and made a piece of sheet metal that would cover all the perforations in the pipes inside. I tack welded it in place and then heated it so it would conform to the shape of the pipe using a hammer and small chisel. Then I welded it all around and welded up the window I had cut.
It sounded pretty good, but still a little too quiet.
I took the muffler back off and did the same thing to the bottom of the muffler.
Now it sounds really good and has no drone. I get a lot of compliments on it.
I put on Akrapovic carbon fiber tips (knockoffs) and it look and sounds as good as anything out there.
I think I'm going to put an x pipe where the resonators were just to see.

Guy did electric cut-outs. He also tried adding an X pipe. He said x pipe was quieter and didn't sound as good.
I have done a few x pipes on NA cars and found that the sound and tone was improved. Maybe not with turbos??

I am either going to do a muffler mod like suggested or e cutouts. E cut-outs will be louder and can control with a separate remote to open/close anytime I want.

I recently did a Muffler delete only on my 2015 BMW X6M. Love the way it sounds may add in X pipe soon right after mid resonators.
I haven’t had time to record good videos but will post link showing a cold start no revs because it was really early and loud lol. Also a short video of a normal start with a couple of revs in normal drive mode.

normal start/drive mode

cold start

There is definitely some drone not bad tho in my opinion. Adding the X-pipe like I plan on doing should definitely help with drone.

I did the same, deleted the muffler, left the resonators this time, added an xpipe. Love the sound, it doesn’t drone in M mode, but in the regular non M mode I find there is definitely some drone, but not enough to bother me. The refined sound with the X pipe makes it sound like an exotic car.

Hey when you added X pipe besides refining sound in your opinion did it seem less loud compared to just muffler delete? Im doing x pipe soon but I want it to still be loud lol

Nope, it’s still loud, just refined the note a bit, removed the raspiness.

Sounds great. The M5 has it stock, not sure why we didn’t get them.

Since there are no valves involved, does it sound the same in
economy/ sport / sport plus modes?

No, because of the rpm’s, shift points etc, it’s obviously much more tame in the other modes and tends to drone. I am hardly ever in those modes though, sometimes when passing police and it I need it at its quietest.

did you get a CEL after the install because of the missing valves, or is it not a thing on this platform?

If you did, was it a bypass through coding / a simulator?

I haven’t had any CEL due to muffler delete yet I just had them unplug from valve and tuck wires. I unplugged it before muffler delete in the past as well, and rode around with valves open and didn’t have a CEL issue so I guess it’s same concept.

No CEL for muffler deletes. If you go catless downpipes, then you will get CEL
