Got the car back and it needed an extra 0.5 litres of oil. So nothing major....phew.
So the electronic oil check does not work to 1 decimal place, only whole litres !!!! Wish the car had a dipstick, but there must have been some dipstick in Germany designing the engine who said...yaahh good idea to remove the dipstick and save some money, vunderbargh!! |

seems the general experience is a bit all over the place. I have 24k miles since May 2017, I drive 10 miles (23-30 mins) 4 times per week, plus weekend highway runs. Typically I have to place 1 quart between the service intervals, which are admittedly really spread out.

Oil Consumption
My X5M’s; 2015 model never needed oil between BMW service centre every 10k km. However, got a newer 2017 model and this vehicle is consuming a litre every 3,000km. Drive both of them hard... is there a remedy to minimise oil consumption or is it a good / normal thing?

Yes, I use the Leichtlauf line. I actually called Liqui Moly customer service and asked which would be best for the F85 and that's what they recommended. They have a newer line that is more expensive but he still thought this would be best.

Has anyone had oil analysis done on 5 - 40 grade yet?
Mines had factory preferred spec 0- 30 in it from new for 23000 miles ( 4 oil changes so far) no wear at all worth mentioning on the samples I've had done despite the engine liking a litre top up every 3000 miles or so |

At 3500 miles , vehicle not even close to broken in yet, but that is a bit high no matter what. I went to about 20,000 and it stopped burning 1 qt every 1000. Now at 35000, about a quart every7500

Now at 45500, oil consumption is ¼ to ½ quart in 10,000 miles

Not sure if the measurement are correct, it's like suddenly after 2500kms, it lost 1 litter. I feel if it starts burning oil, it shouldn't be this much to begin with. So hard without a dipstick. |
