Windshield Repair, Safelite Or Other?

Yesterday, picked up a lovely windshield star driving to Jersey...f-ing Jersey!! Believe it or not, but I never had to deal with any type of windshield repair/replacement before, so this is a new one for me.

I'll try and post up some pics of the damage, but it is approximately the size of a quarter, maybe slightly larger, and does not appear to have penetrated the double glass (can't feel it on the inside). It's also not in my field of vision, and the only damage to the windshield. My insurance should cover the repair without my deductible.

So do I go with Safelite, dealer (assuming they repair in house and not just contract out), or elsewhere?

Other peeps may have different experience but for me, Safelite while convenient, was a PITA to schedule and actually show up.
Second, my insurance paid for a generic windshield, not OEM. The generic windshield, something in it was different enough that my rain sensor never worked properly again. It's worked occasionally, but not like OEM. Don't know if that's something with how they reconnected it or if it had to do with the glass itself.

Thanks for the feedback, but I'm hoping for just a repair, not replacement.

BTW, from me just searching, it looks like those who need a full replacement need to also purchase a new rain sensor. Did you not have a new one installed?

Nope. That was probably my problem. For repairs, should be fine

Just texted my SA, and they do repairs/replacement in house. So I'll likely just bring to them.

That does not look like it can be repaired. It is showing expansion. GL
Also off topic, is anyone else having a problem going into M5 F90 board, when I go to the M5 board the f10 only shows up, no f90?

You came to Jersey and didn't pass by to see your/my wheels?

I have used safelite to repair a rock hit but it had not spidered. They filled it and it was fine. Agreeing with the other poster, not sure if that can be repaired. Good luck.

Sorry, not enough time to visit! Haha

I'm really hoping I don't have to go through the hassle of having it replaced. I was scheduled to go this afternoon to attempt a repair, but it's raining and I didn't want to get the car dirty after having just washed/waxed yesterday.

Even if the glass is repairable, the "scar" can be still visible.

Dealer attempted to repair, but like you guys said, the impact is still very much visible...so it is going to need replacing due to my OCD. $2544 But my insurance should be coverage it all no charge to me. Hopefully my rates don't go up. I've read mixed results with comprehensive claims affecting premiums. My main concern for getting it replaced is due to resale value.

Gotta keep it nice and pretty for when Salottox5m buys it from me

I just replaced my windshield a few months ago. If you have to go that route, suggest you discuss with Safelite first. I pushed them to replace with the OEM glass and they asked the dealership to provide an estimate. They approved the OEM glass cost and other parts but I asked me to cover $150 of the labor cost because aparently my dealership was charging significantly more per hour than approved rates by the insurance company. I chose to do that because I would also have the convenience of getting a loaner car from my dealership and getting the OEM glass as opposed to dealing with a non-BMW dealership and also potentially having the generic glass not work up to specs.
