Sunroof Issue

My sunroof is open about 2 inches. It will not move in any direction. It does it appear to even try. Anyone have this happen? Obviously the next stop is the dealer but thought someone may suggest a quick fix?

Held it in the open, closed and vent position for 30 seconds. Did not do anything. Should I be holding it longer?

That happened on my previous F15 50i - same here, resetting the sunroof didn't make it operate again. Maybe I was lucky, but mine stuck as the shade was starting the retract and the glass hadn't started to move yet. Took it to the dealer twice in 3 years because of this issue.

Dealer fixed it this morning. Had to reset it with their computer. Hopefully it does not happen again. What if it had been raining?

This happened to me recently and resetting didn't do anything. What fixed it was holding down the the unlock or lock button on the key which will either open or close the sunroof. Somehow that reset everything and its been working fine since.

I had that same thought and tried it as well as the soft close button on the door. Neither of them worked. Interestingly enough, the service advisor instantly new the fix and said they would take care of it quickly. That makes me assume that it is common.

So what happens at 55k miles and it gets stuck all the way open during a rain storm or snow?

If anyone has an issue with their sunroof that quit working and when you press the switch, it doesn't move or work. Disconnect the negative cable from the main battery. The X5M/X6M have two batteries. One is a large main BMW battery, the other battery is to heat up the O2 sensors when start up. So disconnect the negative of the main large battery for about 10 minutes. Re-connect again and put everything back together. Start your vehicle and press the switch to operate the sunroof, it should work.

Happened to me and I follow that above and everything is working great.

This is the only thing that worked for me. Did the reset, replaced the fuses and nothing worked. After holding down the unlock button on the fob with only the ignition on it still didn’t work. However, after I started the engine the moonroof worked again. Thank you!
