KMAC Update

Howdy folks,

Had my car in the shop and they noticed that one of the bolts as part of the KMAC adjustable bushings had sheared off. A potentially dangerous situation. Long story short, they replaced the KMAC bolt with a heartier bolt from a Dodge Ram.

If anyone with the KMAC setup wants me to track down a part number, I will try.

Hopefully I did at least a moderate job of explaining this.

The shop I took it to called KMAC. He said he could ship a replacement but it would take about a week. Prior to finding the bolt from the Ram, the shop got a factory bolt and the factory bolt is definitely beefier than the KMAC bolt.

In terms of what caused it? Hard to say. They did notice some damage in other areas. Tough to say how recent this damage was and if it all happened at the same time. Additionally, the bolt is in a somewhat protected location so something would have to have hit it just right to cause a break due to impact. It quite possibly could have failed on its own.

Regardless, I am glad the bolts are replaced as it seems KMAC should have used the bolts from the Dodge Ram (or something of that thickness/gauge) in the first place.

Hi - member contacted us re the bolt problem. Would be situation where bolt was not fully tight. Constant fore / aft (brake and acceleration) would have eventually caused situation. Attached instruction sheet - alignment specs do highlight need to ensure bolts fully tight. Then use of the specially designed fail safe lock system to retain in place.
