Aftermarket Extended Warranties?
Hey all, anyone looked in to options lately? My original warranty is up at the end of the year and I am considering picking up an extended warranty for a few years after.
Lots of options out there so hoping not to duplicate effort if anyone has any good leads. Please, I don't need a lesson on why I shouldn't purchase an extended warranty. Update: Have received one quote back so far: MAP(EFG) Platinum Warranty Plan type: Exclusionary (fairly short list of mostly wear parts that aren't covered) Terms: 7yrs, 60k miles (starts at time of warranty purchase) Price: $4595/$50 deductible Here's a quote for extension of the factory warranty from Steve Thomas BMW: Terms: 84 months/75k miles Price: $4250 Terms: 84 months/100k miles Price: $4950

Won't be cheap, that's probably why most of people decided just to keep that cash aside. It does varies state to state, and I did check prices about 2 years ago and the cheapest I was able to find was $4800.

Just something to keep in mind, I recently drove to a dealer for some repair work (about 40min drive) rather than one much closer to me since I like them and dealt with them before the warranty ran out and I was surprised to hear they had a list of 3rd party warranty companies they recently stopped working with. I have carchex and they stopped working them.
If you buy warranty thinking that all dealers would accept like they promise when they sell one, they are probably wrong and things are changing. |

I would suggest talking with your local BMW service manager/writer and seeing which company they prefer dealing with. Once you have a list of names, start making phone calls for quotes. Don't be afraid to negotiate the pricing on these warranties as well. Things to discuss, needed miles/year, type of warranty (powertrain only, bumper to bumper aka wrap, optional items electronics/turbo/emissions, etc.), deductible, labor rate, and finally price.
I have a Warranty Solutions plan for one of my cars. Its a unlimited mile/year plan for powertrain and wrap also included emissions options. I've used it several times and never had an issue. I highly recommend them if you can get a good deal. I also have a GWC plan for my wife's car 60k/5yr powertrain but didn't like them too much due to using used parts for replacement. Not bad but I wouldn't go with them again. Last advice would be to read the fine print on the contracts before you commit. This will save the headaches in the future.

Ridgefield BMW in Connecticut, there a very good dealership that usually wins awards for top bmw dealerships in the country.

An excellent point. My concern is not so much with the warranty coverage; instead, it is whether or not a dealer will accept - or recognize it in paying for a repair.

Sounds good, so far the MAP (by EFG) quote I've received is the best so far. Reading through the contract, the only bit that is less than satisfactory is that they reserve the right to use remanufactured or used parts for the repair (edit: Just checked Fidelity's contract and has the same terms for use of remanufactured/used parts). I'm not sure if this is standard for other extended warranty providers but I plan to keep looking around.
I am betting we can get some "group buy" type of discount if a few of you are interested. I got some pretty good quotes from from Mossy Motors for Fidelity Platinum as well. which seems to be more widely recognized and has more positive reviews. 4yrs, 48k $4,695 $250 Deductible

Great thread. Situation here the same with warranty running out EOY. However, it is CPO and not factory warranty. I think as the car increases in mileage, I would want more factory type coverages.
FWIW, I have called a few and now they won't stop spam calling me. Therefore direct them to your google voice # or don't leave one. I have a few quotes that I will search for to contribute to this thread. Based out of NJ. Just to confirm, I should scrap the offer of CPO extension? Below are prices |
