I wish I had a good camera with a appropriate mic to capture the real sound much better but this is close enough. I believe if you had the ultraquiet resonators from Vibrant instead of the borlas, you'd solve the drone issue 90%. But it's additional cost. I was thinking that they could replace the front OEM resonators.

Hi lads, first post.
Have read all the posts. Summary: X-pipe with muffler delete is the popular option. Some have found a slight drone in comfort, and some have found the sound too radical opting for some small mufflers each side. I’m curious if a solutions such as this fellow provides a rounded balance on a ricer budget... A muffler semi bypass.... |

I am not sure if this solution is audible in the cabin.

A highly economical job that provides a step up without going radical, and something perhaps to try if wanting to dip the toes. Can always take it further if not sufficient to personal taste. |

Hey guys - looking to do this in the DFW area but getting RIDICULOUS quotes compared to the guys on the thread (~$1,000 - $1,200). Has anyone done this or knows of someone reputable in the DFW area?
A few other observations I want to make sure I got right: - X-pipe needs to be 2.5 or 2.75" and avoid magnaflow. - Quad tips need to be no longer than 10" in total, 2.5 ID / 3.5 OD (4.0 if less than 4mm of separation between each tip) Wanting to pull the trigger this weekend so any help is much appreciated! Thanks to all the pioneers of this mod! |

Try to find a Meineke closeby. Some of them have good installers. Do not go to a "tuning shop" for exhaust install as they will try to charge you big bucks for an easy welding job.

My local shop says it will be tough to weld in the x-pipe without dropping the system out of the car. No room to get around it with the welder. They quoted me ~300-350 just to cut the muffler out and weld in the straight pipes. Additional for the x-pipe depending on how difficult it proves to be. Anybody else hear this from an exhaust shop?
Thinking I should shop around. |

I was going to install an electronic By-pass then pipe back to the exhaust tips to bypass the muffler. So in both sceneries, the exhaust exists from the same tailpipes. (Didn't go this route due to the failure rate of the By-passes) |

Sound is a lot quieter than I expected, not to say it is “quiet”. WOT is pretty raspy and loud but under normal driving conditions it gives it a nice growl. I have noticed a bit of a lag in lower RPMs but I assume that’ll correct as the computer gets use to it. Hate the tips the shop used so I’ll need to find a good set and have them reinstalled. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Edit: cost: $150 for the x pipe, $190 for the tips (hate them), $ 160 for labor. Unfortunately they dinged my left exhaust outlet a bit but it’s hardly noticeable. |
