I like how the current BMW X series line up looks like.. I like them all X1 to the X6.. this one fits just right in, but it is certainly not a ground breaking design, just nice. BTW, huge fog light a la Nissan Juke.. no go!

Thanks for the response, yes they are painted, but i was referring to the wider fender in general regardless of paint... this will clarify the case for you...

X5 without wider fenders...

With Wider fenders...

Msport, with painted wider fenders...

Those newly styled roof rails look complete useless w/out attachments.

Does anybody know if BMW includes tie-downs?

I've been laughing for 6 pages. Almost every response to the new X5 has been ''OMG it's so ugly.'' Come on, guys! You weren't born yesterday, were you? Have you ever loved a new model more than the previous? It's so typical - whenever a new model comes out, people hate it with everything they've got. Until they get used to it. And then they love it. Until another new and ugly model comes out. I've got an E60. When it first came out, people were literally crying. It was so ugly.

So let's think first and talk later. :-)
My complaint is not about how bad it looks... its more about "couldn't they do better than that?"As i have said before a high school graduate with a week of PS training can create a better design than that. They managed to just include that stupid "headlight touching the grill design"[looks fine on one model but trying to incorporate into every model is just silly IMHO] in to the present X5[They managed to add the so called character line on the side of the present X5 ] and slap it with the X1'ish rear... and walla here is our new flagship SUV.They couldn't even make the H kink a little more different.I mean really....BMW after all the research into design and innovation, with all your resources .. you manage to bring out this.It would be fine for a company like dodge or fine as a LCI. I don't expect this from a luxury SUV maker whose product could cost 70K .

Honestly this has been the trend of all recent BMW's. A quick search for an imaginative concept from an artist[speculative picture] of the future X5 looks better than this.Same went with the F10 too.It looks like some grand dads car.
The only explanation i can manage is that either they r being very safe or being very lazy. That's what Honda and toyota did and ended up in the present state. Lazy ass diesigns.

If they have managed to reduce weight despite an increase in overall size and cargo capacity while managing to retain the previous model's outward proportions, I'd say it is a win.

X5 will no longer be the flagship Sport Activity Vehicle.

Anybody else agree with me that it lost some curves and looks really boxish?

Maybe this can be the cardboard box transformer lol.

This is leaps and bound better looking than the e70. No version of the e70 looks good. not even the M. Also, i remember when the e70 just came out. everyone hated it. they said then that it looked like the x3. The e70 isnt ugly but there is nothing to it just like the e60 5 series. The character lines are bland and mediocre.

Couldn't disagree more. Loved the E70 day one when it came out, which was tough, as I lust after the original X5 (still do).

Same "pinched" front-end as the new 3 series, which I really don't like.

The current x is bland. There is nothing to it but a SUV. it does not garner the same respect the e53 4.8is does. I wanted to get one but it just wasnt working for me. I ended up looking at the vw touareg instead (current version)

As a matter of fact all of BMW SUVs are ugly except the e53. I see some talking about how good looking the current X3 and X1 is. they are both ugly. Even the M sport X3 is ugly. Right now the only BMW that I like are the 5 and 6 series.

lol - BMW's sales stats would disagree with your opinion but then again, you did buy a VW.

So you liked the previous X3 more than the current one? But you know what, why don't YOU design a better looking X1, X3, X5 and all the other models? If BMW is doing such a lousy job, why not come up with better looking models and just pitch them to BMW? Oh, wait.. you can't. You just enjoy criticizing others for their job. Btw, what do you do? Can you show me your work? I'd like to tell YOU what I think about it. PS: It's not pretty either. You're doing a shi*y job, mate!

Not trying to pick a fight, just pointing out your one-minded stupidity. Try to be more tolerant, okay? Less fighting = a better world.

guys, im not here to pick a fight with any of you or here to crunch bmw sales numbers. I dont care. i dont care what people want to spend their money on. But for some to come on here talking about how ugly this X is when from first glance (we've only seen two pictures) it looks better than the previous version, you guys are messed up in the head. Again, the best LOOKING suv bmw has ever made so far is the E53. I can say the same about other companies. the previous Benz ML looks better than this one. The previous E looks better than current.

Fact is, the best looking BMW right now are the 6 series, including the grand coupe and the 5 series. The 7 series is so so.

I guess it will be good, I like the rear end and I will wait for the high res photos to judge it

I think the rear end is a huge step back - those taillights do not look modern at all. It looks like some anime character's eyes when he's emo or something. Certainly doesn't say sporty. Same thoughts with the new Merc ML tails.

But looks are always subjective - I don't know why people are arguing over it and telling people they're messed up in the head.
