I really lucked out with this! List price was $675 USD for the running boards. I saw a few dealers in my area with automated online quotes on BMWUSA for labor between $925 and $1099 USD, or something like that. There's a nice DIY in the forums that sounded like it took him 2-3 hours, so I didn't trust those automated quotes, but who knows? I'm sure the places around here don't do too many. Complicating matters, I had a coupon for parts/accessories at the place with the highest labor estimate. So...

I took the 20% off coupon to the place I got the X5 (and a bunch of other parts recently) and they honored the other dealer's coupon! Surprisingly, their labor quote was only $280 (e.g. a little over 2 hours)! Turns out they misquoted the labor...that should have been per side. Fortunately, they ate the cost...and since Delaware has no sales tax, it was about $820 USD total for me. The car got its first bath as a courtesy, too. Woo-hoo!

Sure, I'll post a few more I snapped that day. Had to reinstall my son's car seat (since transporting the old M Sport side skirts needed the seats folded down), so only took a couple. If you want a specific perspective, send me an example.

More photos from that day. In retrospect, I should have snapped a few with the doors open.

Looks goods, my wife would appreciate them. Do you know if there are modifications needed or just a direct swap with the xLine running board?

Looks like a direct swap with the side skirts. I'm not sure if there was anything else underneath that came for the retrofit, but it was "BMW Aluminum Running Boards" part #51952357132.

At least they should be painted to match the rest of the paint colour, looks odd with the black plastic visible where everything else is painted.

I agree painted would look much better. Looks "off" from side profile

Painting to match the car (e.g., white) might make sense for some folks, but only if it matched exactly. Right now I prefer having less white on the car, if that even makes sense. Actually, if it was carbon fiber down there, I'd probably like that the most.

IMO the running boards just looks out of place for a Msport... just like the 19"wheels looks out of place and just does't flow with the rest of the ///M look that BMW is known for. But if you personally like it then thats all it counts.

I think it would little better painted to match as well but imagine the scratches and scuffs you will see down the road when or if you actually try to use it as a step. It makes sense for the running boards to be unpainted.

Trying to paint match white is almost always going to result in wishing that it never even was attempted.

Thanks.

Union Park BMW service center in Wilmington. Might be a bit of a drive for you, but I hear the Bay Bridge-Tunnel is quite scenic. (My dealer suggested taking that route for an upcoming summer vacation road trip!)

I remember being frustrated with that center when the 1 needed service back in the day, but the X5 running board install is looking pretty solid. Getting used multiple times a day. Plus, got a big thumbs up yesterday from a car enthusiast friend, so pretty happy so far. My 3 1/2 year old LOVES his new step.

Thank you for the quick response bro. Will make some phone calls and see how it goes. Have a G-day. :-)

Check our classified section. I remember seeing one for sale a couple of months back. Check EBay as well for an aftermarket equivalent. Good luck!
