Stealth Sub Enclosures Fitted (E92)

Just thought I would share my experience......Having tried a variety of options ranging from Twin 12" Alpine ported, Twin 12" JL Audio Bass Wedge and a custom built Twin 10" enclosure I decided to tried a pair of stealth enclosures as I wanted my boot space back and securing these heavy boxes was a nightmare. I was a bit wary of the sound that would be produced from an enclosure of this size and pondered for ages as to go for 10" or 12". As I had a pair of 10 & 12" Alpine Type R subs, I spoke to the manufacturer to see if he would make an adaptor/spacer so that I could use either size - He agreed for a small fee and within 10-14 days I had everything delivered. First I tried the 12s which sounded good but did not drop low enough due to the cubic volume so I attached the spacer/adaptors and fitted the 10s which I prefer the sound of. Yes the JL Audio sounded louder and deeper but it took way too much of my boot space and the compromise of sound vs space I am happy with what I have now. Just need to tidy the wiring a bit.

12" Type R's

10" Type R's

Very nice.

I've seen and thought about these to house my Orion 10's as the custom box I have (although small'ish) would still have to go right across the boot area so rendering the through load useless unless I knew in advance I needed it. Who did you use in the end for these?

How about this for a basket lol.

Car looks sweet and that install is very clean. I want to do the same as you have but like yourself I don't want it sounding pants because of the small enclosures.

Thanks - Just depends what sound you going for really....If its SPL then no...but if you want a nice thump and roll it will more than do that....I am still running OEM speakers with no amplification....Days of setting off car alarms and shaking the place are over....

That looks ace!

What parts do you need to wire it to the standard BMW headunit? If that is what you have?

Cool, they are the ones I have been looking at tbh. Did you get extra discount for using your car pics for the ad lol.

Personally I think the 12s need a bigger enclosure to hit lower notes.

When I installed it was just to test the fit and just have not had the time....and as time has passed and it is not a show car its not that important.....perhaps in the spring time....

Feed to amp is tapped into the OEM wiring loom....I did not do myself - got an installer to do it....He offered various options and I have both JL Audio SS1 and CLS441 DSP....but didn't bother to install as I was not going to go all out and amp the OEM speakers.....One thing though is that you need something to increase the voltage from the head unit to the amp (line driver). I had a small Kenwood Graphic EQ which is hidden away which boosts frequencies and voltage...I know its not the perfect option but it serves my needs.....
