IND| F85/F86 Hood Roundel Trim Install

One of the nice design elements featured on BMW M models is the menacing shadow-line black trim. Unfortunately, BMW always leave a few key elements in the standard chrome finish. In continuation of supplanting the BMW chrome accents, one of the first area we decided to address was the chrome BMW roundel housing. This piece is a fairly quick DIY and results in creating a more cohesive look on the F15/F16/F85/F86.

Tools required for this job are follows:
• Painters tape
• Bondo spreader
• Nylon pry tool
• Detail spray
• Adhesive remover

Available for purchase on our website:
https://ind-distribution.com/product...D-F85-HROUNDEL

1. The first and very important step is to protect the vehicle paint. This is done with painters tape from your local auto parts store or hardware store. Once you have the tape, the idea is to create a barrier between the paint and the factory roundel trim.

2. The factory roundel is secured via two tabs as well as a ring of double-sided tape. The double-sided tape is doing most of the work. Carefully place the nylon pry tool in between the body and the roundel trim.

3. Once the roundel is slightly lifted, place the bondo spreader under the roundel and begin to work its way around the circumference of the roundel while slightly lifting the roundel. This will release the double-sided tape.

4. After the tape has been separated from the body, carefully pull on the roundel to release the two tabs. Make sure to keep the factory grommets as you will use them with the new painted roundel.

5. There will be some leftover residue from the double-sided tape. You can remove this with your fingers and a small dab of adhesive remover. Make sure the area is clean and dry before installing the new roundel.

6. Now you can remove the painters tape and clean the surface with a clean microfiber and detail spray.

7. Your replacement roundel trim has pre-installed double-sided tape ready to go. Simply remove the paper covering and guide the trim into place. Apply light pressure around the roundel to promote adhesion between the double-sided tape and the body.

8. Take a step back and admire your work. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the install.

No matter what I do I cannot get anything under my hood roundel. It's on there like crazy and my nylon pry tools aren't thin enough to fit very far under. I can get them under the trunk one but trying to get it into the dish that it sits and under the roundel isn't working. It's nearly flush with the car and every time I seem to be doing nothing but bending the hood down.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Ended up using some packing strips that I could shimmy under the lip to pull up an edge to skip the bondo spreaders under and then the nylon pry bar between the spreader and the roundel

Any pics of the gloss vs matte roundels?

I am looking for carbon fiber roundels for the trunk and hood of my f85.

Cars color is silverstone.

Also, want matching kidney grills. (No stripes, has night vision) and I would guess it is best to have the color (gloss, matte,etc...) on the emblems and the grill match....I just don't know what to pick..?

I have the black chrome roundels. I had to do something with the white and blue wedges so I did vinyl overlays. I wish I had a better option but I like the gray and black look, especially considering how thoroughly black my car is. Pic is attached.

Anyone have pics of a Silverstone X5M with a gloss black grill and black roundel?

These things aren't cheap, just want to make sure I order the correct setup...
