X5M style side fender vent on F15

Thanks Ben@r33_RGSport for a set of new side vent grilles. As always, the customer service is superb!
The grilles are held on by 3M double sided tape which made installation a cinch. I know they don't stand out as much on a darker colored vehicle but they do add an extra dimension to the car especially in broad daylight. Also, none of those M badges!

think it should be more excellent on lighter colored X5.

Looks good! I've been waiting for someone to take the plunge and post pics!
First two pics are great. Third pic looks like there is a slight gap on the left edge? I'm viewing the pics on my phone, btw. Can it be pushed further "in"? Is it even a real issue in person?

I think that is just a shadow.

Not my cup for tea... If I had a X5M I would have removed this piece as well.

Yah it is just a shadow. It is as close to the edge as it can get. The plastic grille piece has some curvature to it and it is slightly lower than the vent edge. It is not a defect, just the design afaik.

To each his own, I've been waiting for this piece since Ben mentioned he is procuring some without the X5M emblem. The simple slit bugged me. But yes I can see some might see it as too "busy".

That's kinda what I thought as well, but seeing how this one sits pretty flush, it actually blends pretty well IMO. Perhaps the chrome on stock X5M pieces accentuated the heaviness?
The blank slits always struck me as weird from day one, like it was a cost/cutting measure.

The fit looks spot on. My issue with it is it looks odd with the X5M badging missing.

Not saying it should have that badging, but it was designed to have a badge and it looks unfinished to me.

As for removing from an M car altogether, wouldn't that leave holes where it's fitted on th X5M?

For me, I ordered the gloss black M Performance gills and front grill for my incoming M, purely because it stands out too much in chrome.

I do agree however that the clean look on an F15 looks better.

Here is a perfect example of what I mean.. Check out these blank slits!!

A VERY clean M235 modded.

By far the best 2 series I've seen to date.

Makes me excited to see what the tuners will do to the M2!

Heh, not a good/fair comparo. Those vents run basically top to bottom and are huge compared to the X5.
There is just wayyyyy too much going on with this car. Of course I'd take it if given to me, but overall, not my taste regarding all the extra body work.

I agree with this, I don't think I would do it on my car, like the ones on the m-sport personally, but if I did do it, I would want an emblem as it looks like it is missing an emblem since it is - wonder if someone would produce an emblem that says 50i or 35i maybe to make it look more finished - someone did this on the 335i to replace the M logo on the M3 side grills when people put on M3 fenders.

Now imagine having a black plastic trim partially covering the slits. It would just completely ruin the clean look of this m235. I feel like it is the same with the F15 side slits.

The main difference I notice from the addition of the plastic gills on M cars is that it changes the balance of the front fender.

Hard to describe but when you look at an F15 M sport fender, with it's clean opening/slit and M badge, and compare that to an X5M with the added plastic gills and no M badge.

It does look less balanced on the X5M - almost to draw the attention downward too much.
