DIY MMI Rearview Camera
Hey guys, i hate the fact i dont have a rearview camera. So been researching alot and about to start buying all the components i need. Looks like i can do it for around $300. Really all i need is the MMi and a decent camera. Found a CIC compatible mmi for $260 on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-2009y-20...item2a2b9b9a41, theres also an NBT compatible one too.
For camera i think im gonna go for this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/CMOS-parking...QAAOSwF1dUPjNu Anyone who has done any of the aftermarket options out there (modmynav, bimemrtech, etc), do you guys know if i need anything else? Also any recommendation on which camera to use? looks like for mmi everyone uses the same one. |

the seller for the mmi is not back until the 15th. Im gonna confirm with him on the rearview camera connection and then order. I will make sure to write up a diy! if this works, we should have a much cheaper rearview camera solution!

Yes, the rear view camera retrofit is basically a MMI box, a camera and instruction

Keep us updated on this, didn't think a rear cam was a big deal but I miss having one. 80's ballad playing "You don't know what you've got till its gone" in the background right now.

just in process of working on some deals with the distributer. The same mmi unit used by all the top vendors. Infact distributer has a newer model which has some additional features.
Also in process of getting couple ccd/cmos camera's for testing. Camera prices range a bit, but no way close to what these guys are selling it for. They are pretty cheap also. learned so much about rear view cameras, lol. I was surprised to find out that breakdown of an x3 rear view camera was using a cmos sensor instead of a ccd. I want a camera more for night time vision, and so far i cant find any cmos camera that is able to beat or compare to a ccd night vision quality. May also have found a way to integrate aftermarket camera with oem camera module. Some of these cameras are fully compatible with oem unit. However pricing wise, its more since I wont be able to get a wholesale price on oem bmw part. I may not continue wasting my time on oem integration. will keep you guys posted. It takes some time working with the distributers in korea/china to get the right deal Last edited by j0nblayz; 05-16-2016 at 02:29 PM.. |
