msport bumper help

hey guys iam getting ready to due my bumper swap on my 2014 f30 modern line bmw.. I pulled off the oem bumper and noticed a couple of things and I was hoping that someone out there who has done this swap can steer me in the right direction befor I buy anymore bumper parts... iam NOT adding fog lights or brake vents.. I have the clean front grill and fog light inserts.. so here is my list of questions...
1.) since I am not adding the brake vents part # 51748054229 and 130, due I have to replace those aluminum deformation elements parts# 51118051189 and 190???
2.) now I am looking at the foam on the aluminum bumper, the instructions say to remove and put on a new one part# 51118054186, Iam looking at this part and it looks the same... why am I replacing it??? Wont my msport bumper go on with the oem foam? Due I even need this piece?
3.) I removed the bottom air vent, due I need to replace this with the new part# 51748054228? I don't see a reason for this piece to even be in there other than directing all airflow onto the radiator.
4.)this one should be obvious but I got to make sure! Since iam not installing fog lights due I need the fog light housings part# 51118054511 and 512? iam only asking because iam not sure if the supports part# 51118054163 and 164 attach to them because I don't see how they attach other wise...
5) what is this part for 51748054232 AMOE ?? no clue on this one.. and finally
6.) due I need this part# 51118054188 if I already have part#51118054187?
Whew thanks guys in advance.

Hi fellas, i have successfully done this a few weeks back, i had a standard se.. in english here is everything i bought
I got the bumper already my colour
The fog surrounds left and right
The intakes left right and centre
You'll also need a few rivets.

I did not even touch the deformation elements, and my vents still fit perfect and look better at the front having them
The fog light mounts you do need regardless of fog lights, as they fill the gap behind your wheel arch, as they bumper is lower

I did not need anything else

I changed my SE to M sport complete conversion .

All I bought for behind frond bumper is both sides air intakes and foglights holder and that's it nothing else , but afterwards I removed foglights anyway .

Here is a pic

The stock bumper foam guard won't fit. I got another bumper foam guard and it didn't fit either so I didn't put one on and the bumper fits fine

Are you using all OEM parts or one of the Selma bumpers?

1) if you are not changing to OEM brake ducts, you don't need to change the deformation pieces.
2) The foam piece was too thick for my Selma bumper to fit perfectly. I believe the difference is minor. I removed it for ease of installation and perfect fit.

Pictures might help others answer your other questions

I will have a full DIY install video of a sport line to M-sport front bumper conversion some time early next week. I have shot initial fitment videos and have the new bumper back from the paint shop.

Install will be tomorrow, and then video creation and post. 8)

Hey BMW DIY Guy,

Did you end up making this video. I'm interested in doing the conversion from Sport line to M-sport. It feels like the more I research the more confused I get. Some people are changing elements where others aren't. I have an opportunity to buy an OEM M-sport bumper but want to factor in the costs of the extra parts for the conversion. It would be nice to actually see someone do it via video.

Thanks,

dakoo12

OP, did you end up changing your deformation elements? Are the after market air ducts a different shape than the OEM air ducts. That would make sense because some people are changing them and others aren't. Can anyone confirm this??

So the bumper comes with new air ducts to fit the new bumper, so you are good.

Hey BMW DIY Guy,

I'm buying an OEM msport bumper cover only and need to purchase all the other internal parts to do the conversion. The problem I'm having comes to the air ducts and deformation elements. Some people are saying it is necessary to change the deformation elements because the air ducts wont fit. Others are saying you dont have to. I believe if you buy OEM air ducts they won't fit, but the aftermarket ones that come in conversion kits might be shaped different to fit without changing the deformation elements.

So I finally got around to doing this conversion thanks to your video BMW DIY Guy and an old step by step document done by _bdiddyb_. I didn't change the deformation elements and the new OEM m-sport air ducts fit just fine. I had a 2013 F30 sportline bumper for reference. If anyone has any questions feel free to message me. I did a lot of research considering I went with an OEM m-sport bumper and had to buy all the internal parts separately. I spent roughly $940 CAD to do this upgrade. I save some money by doing the conversion myself and leaving out a few parts I didn't think I needed.

thanks again.. can't wait to get a lip and do more exterior upgrades but that will have to wait until winter is over.
