I know I broke the law but...
Was driving on the highway just 55 or 60 then this 991 Porsche Carrera S4 comes blowing by me trying to start something. Game on. Im happy to say the M2 is just as fast. Im surprised as I have a 997.1 turbo and this car is no match for that. Anyway right on his butt and it was all full throttle for both of us. Believe me he was full on too. Then on a steep right turn ramp getting onto the Garden State Parkway (2 lanes) I was able to pass his ass and he was not going slow. He was not able to get me till I slowed for traffic in front of me. Impressive M2 handling on the ramp and straight line performance..

991 carrera S is no doubt faster and handles better than the M2, but maybe he just doesn't have the balls you have haha. Glad your enjoying the car, just keep it safe!

You can get a pretty good idea of the relative performance from fastestlaps.com. |

Get yourself to a track day or autox. The street is not meant for racing, unless maybe you're doing it at 3AM when nothing is around.

M2 can match 991.1 CS on straight or at least very close.
I spent a few month with a 991.1 so I know it. NA even feels slower than it actually is.

That must have been the driver of the Porsche. I love my M2 but to think that it could keep up with a decently driven 997.1 C4S is ridiculous. I often switch with my friend's 997 C2S when I go on track days and I always get better laptimes than on my M2. The rear engine traction is unbeatable out of the corners.
Again I'm not dissing our cars, but Porsche plays in a different league. Last edited by DOMs335D; 11-07-2017 at 10:10 AM.. |

Caymans are but stock 991s are still suffering from initial understeer because of the rear engine layout. M2 is better balanced for sure. This is a C4 hè was talking about. Very good for rainy days but M2 is better balanced and handles better. Cheers Robin |

997 Carrera S(older model but smaller/lighter/more agile than 991) was without a doubt a very fine and well made car with a nice engine but the understeer and feel/handling are stock 18 inch just not good, boring, understeery vs 1M and M2. They feel and handle 2 times better. Understatement. So I did not buy that car not engaging, sporty enough..... Seriously, 'Porsche' build great cars but the normal 911 is overhyped imho. I'm not talking Cayman GTS/GT4, GT3 stuff off course. No chance for our cars. i'ts the same with Megane RS stuff. An 'inferior' car to our M series cars and though I'm not an FWD fan they handle like gokarts and are more agile than our cars. So why is a 911 in another league then? Pricewise for sure Cheers Robin |

Understeer is easily cured with your right foot. And of course the M2 is better balanced, BMW always strives for a 50/50 balance, while 911's are closer to 40/60. It is well known that a perfectly balanced car is easier to drive fast, because of it's predictable characteristics, but for pure performance you need a little more weight over the rear axle. On top of that comes the fact that most 911's are lighter than the M2, even the C4S weighs what the M2 does. |

Understeer is easily fixed with stability management.

You are posting on a public forum that you are endangering yourself and other drivers on public roads. You have to expect some people will take issue with this and say something. There's a reason they build racetracks. Don't be so cheap. Pay for a track day and then you can really see what your car can do. Legal. Safe. Well....Safe-ish.

Hate the stupid creatures... they are so damn overpopulated (because humans have gotten rid of all of their natural predators). Deer are a menace to automotive society.
Only thing that scares me more than deer are moose... a bigger version of a deer with a personality like a jonesing meth addict.

I speed plenty, but I don't race stupid people on the street. Big difference in danger between the two.
