copied from where i found this idea,, when BMW upgraded the diesel engines on the E70 LCI X5s a dual intake system was installed that occupies both the holes on the radiator shroud where as one was blanked off in the 35i. Theoretically the dual system will provide more air hence its a larger CAI. The picture shows how its attached in a X5 40d. Last edited by dodgey68; 05-05-2019 at 05:30 AM.. |

If you’re interested, you can hit up Ben/r33_RGSport for a deal. He also offers the knee-pads and many of the interior mods I’ve done as well.

i thought the other aftermarket air box set up collects warm to hot air in an enclosed engine bay over the top of a hot engine,(how does that work) and at least with this its a neat factory looking idea that grabs air before the radiator, gotta be better and fresher/colder, so based on that theory, has to do something (other than fitting an intercooler) |

Digging up a little bit of an older post here, but I'm getting ready to do this install after parts arrive.
My question is what type of hose clamp would be best to use for the silicone elbow? I usually prefer t-bolt clamps over worm-drive, but not sure if the radius on the clamp will work well with the rectangular shape of the front connection. As an alternative, has anyone tried heating up the rectangular connection point to reshape it more towards round? |

For those in the US who have done this, where did you source the silicone elbow from, and did you use a 23° elbow or something else? The only 23° elbows I'm finding are from Australia, which is I'm fine with, but the shipping just sucks, lol.

I bought mine from Australia, and it took 2-3 weeks shipping if I remember correctly. Needs a little trimming on the air box side, other than that, the fitment is good enough to bridge between the scoop and the air box.

I just installed mine yesterday. I found a used Y intake on eBay in the UK. It took approx. 7 days to arrive. The part number for the dual intake are listed above. The hose coupler I ordered from Aeroflowperformance.com out of Australia and the part number is AF9207-400. The hose took about 10 days to arrive. I dropped a K&N in the airbox for good measure. All in, I am in for $180.00. Can't complain.
