Well, it actually happened: tire damage
The odds of this are infinitesimal, but I managed to encounter them. Watched something sail like a frisbee across the lane from oncoming traffic which I think was a flattened can. Felt a slight bump and immediately heard hissing. I have my tire pressure set to button 5 on the dash so I punched that up as soon as I heard hissing. Tire was flat in about 5 sec.
Was going about 50 on a narrow, busy back road with kids in the car. The situation could have been much worse, but I was able to find a spot to quickly pull off the road. Needless to say the patch kit in the trunk was useless. Turned 1.5 hour trip into a 5 hour trip. On a side note, the tow truck offload was VERY close to the front bumper. Be sure to state how low the car is when calling for a flat bed. No wheel damage at all fortunately. |

Dude, that's almost a miracle that the damage was just the tire.

As much as I love my car I hate bmw for not giving us a spare. I had a nail that was leaking air and it's such a headache to use the sludge and hope it works. Glad your rim is okay!

Any chance someone can tell me how to set tire pressure to the button? I just got the car and am drowning in settings. That seems like something I would like to set up.

If you have anything set already on the buttons, you will need to delete all by holding the 7 & 8 down for a few seconds as I recall and start over. Otherwise, I think you just get to the screen you want and hold the number down until it registers. The only difficult thing is assigning those buttons to things inside apple carplay. I had that initially but you don't need it since you can just hold the voice button down to tell siri to call anyone on your contact list.

Simple. Bring up the tire pressure screen, then press and hold one of the soft buttons on the "radio". If that doesn't work, go to the screen before the tire pressure screen (where you'd select the tire pressure screen), and then press and hold the soft button on the radio.

Just picked the car up from the dealer. They said the tire was a special order and wouldn't be ready until today. Ok, whatever. Picked it up today, get home and they put a Sport Cup 2 on. WTF? I knew the tire would be more expensive at the dealer but the car as MPSS on it, not Sport Cup 2s. How is this so hard?
Guess I'll call and complain but as a forum question, is throwing this tire in the mix going to be an issue? I assume it will wear faster and pick up more debris, but my tires already have 8k miles on them. |

Save these photos of your slashed tire and hold them closely, then the next time someone ask you to go or take somewhere that you're not up to, send them these photos of your busted tire and tell them you can't unfortunately make it #Lifehack

Ugh. I'm sorry. I was lucky enough to be like half a mile from the dealer when I ran over something. I could see the Psi going down as I was driving, arrived at the dealership with something like 15 psi in the tire.
Really wish BMW had given us a spare. |

Basically the way the memory buttons work is that they save whatever the cursor is currently highlighting (more specifically they save the page that you would go to if you clicked on the highlighted icon). NOT whatever the current screen is. So if you're on the TPMS screen, but your cursor on the left is highlighting the TPMS icon, it will save TPMS. If your cursor on the left is highlighting service required icon, it will save the service required window. A bit odd but once you understand how it works it's very straightforward except for CarPlay which cannot be saved to the memory buttons in iDrive 6.

i feel your pain about 4k mikes on my car and i ran over a wheel weight at like 15 mph and blew my tire a few weeks back and left a quarter sized hole so it wasn't even salvageable. glad you're safe and stoked your wheel isn't damaged!

Congrats on being alive and car not F'd. I had this happen in Belgium a few years ago, huge pothole, flat tire, no spare...tow to dealer and becomes an all day event and a lost day of work (also for the coworker who was with me).

Wow, glad you’re okay and the wheel looks okay too. You may want to make sure it’s not slightly bent when you have the tire replaced. If minor, for $100-150 they can make it true again.
