SoCal LB & OC - where are gas stations with 93+

Anyone know of gas stations where I can get 93 or higher in Long Beach or coastal OC?

There are no regular gas stations in the OC with 93--- the state max is 91.

You can though, find race fuel stations (100 octane etc) in certain locations as that falls under a different segment.

Newport Hills 76 at 2690 San Miguel Dr has VP 101. But, the last time I went by it was closed. Not sure if it was permanently closed or one of those closed for renovations. Based on a cursory google search, it looks like it might be open again. Whether they still have VP 101 though, I'm not sure.

When it was open I'd go there and get 5gal of 101 and top off with 91. Just over a 94 blend. 4gal would be just over a 93 blend.

Now that I live in San Diego, whenever I go anywhere near Pacific Beach I stop at the Crowne Point VP and grab 5 gallons.

At 10$+ a gallon it's kind of a joke to fill up with it.

Just add a few gallons of e85.

What's the main benefit with higher octane in there cars?? Is it a significant driving difference? Faster? Smoother?

Many high compression, turbo, or forced induction production engines are designed to operate most efficiently with 93 octane, including the G8x series. For the G8x 93 octane is recommended and 91 octane is required. If you go below 93 octane the engine sensors will do things like retard the timing and change the fuel maps to prevent engine knocking (pre-detonation). This will decrease performance because the timing and fuel is not optimal for the engine.

If you go below 91 octane the engine will still run, but very poorly as the timing is retarded beyond normal parameters of functioning to prevent the pre-detonation and you'll likely introduce said pre-detonation.

Pre-detonation is VERY bad for an engine.

Also note that putting in a higher octane fuel than what is recommended by the manufacturer will generally not improve performance (without additional mods to take advantage of the higher octane) and is just giving your money away.

Got it. So stick with 91 until I start with mods and the. I can go for higher octane but never below 91. Good to know.
THANK YOU!

If you have a G8x *and* you can get 93 octane, then that is recommended. But, yes, never go below 91 octane in your G8x.

Sunoco has a fuel finder so you can search in your area: https://www.sunocoracefuels.com/fuel-finder

If that's the Car Wash, they have 100 oct at the pump.

Schedule fills up quickly, just let me know when ready to come in and I'll get you scheduled up.

There's a VP Racing Fuels gas station with 100 at the pump in Lomita.
