When will we see reviews of the M60?

I can't wait to see some reviews of the M60...and get some answers to some basic questions like...
- Is the extra power only available when using launch control?
- Is the suspension the same as the xDrive50?
- Is the range actually better on 22s compared to 21s (same as xDrive50)?

Not sure, I suspect May or June, there are already a few look arounds. And one or two teasers out there.

As far as power we have read that it will have 185ft-lbs more torque full time, and it pushes the peak HP down to be available about 1,000 RPMs earlier than the xDrive50. With boost mode it's another 62ft-lb of torque, but as you mention we don't know what steps are required to use that.

The original press release references an "M specific suspension set-up".

I hope Bjørn is able to get one and do some range tests. I suspect it will perform somewhat similar to the xDrive50, if the xDrive50 is similarly equipped (which would make it a bit heavier). They officially quote consumption of 23.0 – 19.8 kWh/100 km for the xDrive50 and 24.7 - 21.7 kWh/100 km for the M60, so there is some overlap there where they could possibly perform the same based on equipment , driving style, or conditions.

Suspension is the same as that in the x50 with an M specific tune. The maximum 1100nm torque and 455kw power are only available for <10s when using launch control from standstill.

did you mean that the other way around? cause the way you wrote it the M60 would be more efficient than the 50.

He got it right. The 50 consumes fewer kWh per 100km.

I guess what I'm really curious is if the suspension settings are firmer than the xDrive50 all the time or only in some "Sport+" setting (if that exists). In other words, is Comfort mode in M60 the same as Comfort mode in xDrive50 or not. My wife wants it comfortable while I want it sporty....and she's concerned the M60 might never be comfortable.

That's kind of crazy if the extra power is only available when using launch control...not too concerned about the <10s thing as I don't see how often you floor a car as powerful as the iX for longer than 10secs anyway

Well, might have caught me mid edit. BMW inexplicably included the i4 numbers in the M60 press release as well, and I initially copied the wrong values

It has a lot more torque though full time. That's really going to change the feel of it. Think the difference between a turbo and an NA engine at the same HP.

It's also not completely clear if the extra power is *only* available in launch control. The press release is a little vague and the reports interpreting the press release report it somewhat differently. If it didn't have so much torque full time I'd agree that it seems like a waste if you have to engage launch control for any difference.

i could have sworn the numbers originally made the m60 use less energy.... maybe i was just tired.

ok so you did have them originally showing the M60 being more efficient then? So I am not crazy?

Yeah this press release included the i4 consumption as well (5 paragraphs in) and that's what showed on the search summary. On second look I noticed it seemed wrong and I found my mistake. I figured I should say something rather than let you think you're crazy, since it seems my edit was ninja enough for you to quote the fix.
