G42 M240i 1st to 2nd shifting issue?

Hello Everyone,

Just got a G42 M240i a month ago and its an awesome car!

I noticed when Im in manual mode and I go WOT in first gear and I go to shift at 6500rpm the whole car shakes violently. At first I thought I was hitting rev limiter while the shift was happening but then tested it out and rev limiter is at 7000rpm. This issue only happens in first gear. If I shift 1st @ 6000 rpm this doesn't happen. If the transmission is in sport/auto mode it will shift itself in 1st gear at 6000 rpm and won't let it go higher. Every other gear will go higher without issues. I remember my previous M240i with the ZF 8 speed has something similar happen in first gear but not nearly as bad of a shake just like a little delay.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Thanks for any input or help!

I've noticed in 1st-2nd WOT shifting near redline, you gotta give it a bit of room to shift. I think you are hitting the limiter. On my car, I've noticed a bit of a delay on the 1st-2nd upshift, hit the limiter a few times myself even shifting before redline.

I'd try purposefully hitting the limiter once and see if it's the same feeling.

At first I thought it was exactly what you're thinking also, the rev limiter. I purposely hit it and it feels totally different and not as rough as this. A little update I did some testing and it only happens in sport+ mode. If the engine is in sport it won't happen. Very weird. It also only happens when shifting @ 6500rpm. When I hit rev limiter and shifted didnt feel this bad. Its almost like a shaking/vibration when it happens. I don't think their is anything wrong with the car(mechanically) to be honest or else it would happen all the time, but since it only happens in sport+ it makes me think its a software issue.

Hmm, yeah I have not noticed anything like that..

Still worth a dealer visit maybe, or avoid the condition if possible.

I'll ring it out a few times in sport+ today..

Hey Everyone,

I have an update for you, that feeling I was getting was wheel hop, would happen in sport+ and more so when traction control was turned off. It was happening when the weather was cold. Took it to the dealership today, was a hotter day but it wouldnt do it, then I took traction control off and it did it so im glad its nothing more than that!

Appreciate everyones help and input!

Cheers Everyone!
