Question Residual when leasing in the US?

Just curious, for those of you who are leasing their iX in the US, what kind of residual factor did you get?

Why would you ever consider leasing at the current time, instead of purchasing? The residual is likely still around 50% on a 36mo/15k/yr lease and money factor is likely equivalent to more than 4% interest.

Additionally you forfeit the $7500 fed tax credit.

I purchased mine, but if a battery technology improves to allow 600 miles of range within the next three years there is certainly the fear that the trade value will diminish rapidly. Teslas have held up extremely well, but the i3 tanked. At least with a lease you know where you stand after the term is up

It can go the opposite way too though, and not in a good way.

My current e-tron - I can buy it out for $52k. Carmax will give me $63k. But Audi quotes Carmax $83k to buy out! So if I want to trade in/sell my e-tron I have to buy it out myself and then sell it. They don't want me to sell to another dealer.

Not quite as bad as Mach-e where they won't let you buy it out of the lease at all, but at the same time it caught me off guard. Kind of a loophole, they didn't put terms in to block me trading it in somewhere, so instead they jack the price up to higher than original MSRP.

I know with the lease, the financing company technically owns the car and they have only committed on a buyout from you as the leasee. This is like my 13th lease though and I've never seen anything like this.

@sor exactly my situation. With an Audi E Tron. But I advertised my car on autotrader and offers and one of them was from a used car broker. They gave me a deposit. I paid off the car with Audi financial - I paid for expedited processing which took 10 days – and after getting the title –the very next day took it to the broker and sold it to them.

In California you have 10 days to do a pass-through sale to prevent having to pay use tax.

but closer to the original point I thought buying this Audi the very first year it came out -especially with its limited range - would make resale poor. Far from the case I had 11 offers all $20,000 over the lease residual within days of advertising it

BMW Dealers and a lot of brokers affiliated can buy BMW leases. But anyway as others mentioned, now it is not time to lease and especially loose federal credit

I just went through this process with my MB GLC, you have options. You can return the car to any BMW dealer, not just where you bought it. I took my car to three local MB dealers and told them the highest bidder gets the vehicle. I was not buying a new vehicle, just wanted a check. All dealers can buy directly from the captive finance company. In my case I walked away with a check for $7K which was 70% of the difference between what the residual value was and what the dealer sold the vehicle on his used lot three days later. No sales taxes, no waiting for the title, etc. Do your homework and cash in now before the used market softens.

Didn't I not explicitly give you that in post #2?

50% residual for 36mo/15k lease

Money Factor is atleast 4% equivalent or around 0.00190 as post right above this mentions, or 4.5%

My local BMW dealer just bought out my G29 Z4 for my then-current buyout in May, and handed me an ~$12k check for my equity.

I negotiated an excellent lease in Aug 2020

MSRP ~$61k; Selling Price $49,5xx ... some obnoxiously low MF & attractive residual at the time made the $0 cap cost reduction monthly payment $449/mo

Almost as good as the 2015 Jetta SE TDI beater I leased for my wife to drive in the winter and keep miles off the G37S convertible. With the Diesel lease buyout and settlement, my effective monthly payment was $12/month for the 22 months I had the 24 month lease ... that was a great deal

Thanks gotzillar ! MF looks OK (got quoted a MF of 0.0041 to lease a Macan...) but the residual is rather low.

And sorry CaboM4 I didn't realize you were giving me actual figures, thanks for sharing.
