230i...Front Mid-Engine!(?)
I've had my 2022 230i M Sport for a full year now. And I noticed lots of things I love about this car, a few I do not like. Of the many things I noticed, I haven't confirmed though, the 230 is a front mid-engine driveline arrangement.
First off, I make this determination based on the engine block is behind the front axle. Front axle is determined at the hub centerline, not any part of the struts (i.e., top of the strut tower). After looking at pic on the Internet of the B48, and a "snap line" across the engine bay aligned with the center of the hubs, I am assessing the engine block is behind the front axle. Part of the plastic head cover are forward of the line, but not the core of the engine. While it may be a "who cares" factor for some (or many), I think it would a very cool fact about the car to say it is not "front engine" but "mid front engine" arrangement. Certainly, this is a fact some (Miata, Corvette, Aston Martin and other) tout as a design benefit, I think BMW should note this as well....IF, I'm correct in my cursory measurements. Thoughts? Yeah, I am pretty convinced it meets the standard.
And if it was to be verified, I think it'd be a pretty cool fact of the 230i. Last edited by Dinosoar; 01-10-2023 at 09:17 PM.. |
