Code u0101...car bricked

I just had a less exciting experience.
Walking out from the "systembolaget" and jumping into the car, push the start button...... nothing happens.

BOING... "Drivetrain malfunction, car cannot be moved, call assistance"

I luckely had my OBD scanner with me and the code show U0101. TCM lost connection.

Cleared the code and tried to start again, same story... nothing happens and code remains.
Cleared code again, locked the car and walking over to the nearest hardware store to buy a small wrench to disconnect the battery. (everything but waiting 5hours for a flat bed to show up )

When getting back to the car 10min later, unlock and try start, still dead but no MIL and fault code!?!

Locked, unlocked and tried to start a few times and voila, the car lights up.
Now saying something in line with driver assistance not available, car can operate but need attention.
10 seconds later the message goes away.
I take the car the 5km home, no issues what so ever, drive like normal.
Stopping at my driveway in a convenient way for flat bed truck access

Re/start the car again, no problem, no fault message and no stored fault codes...?!?

This seem like a software glitch and evidently BMW will get a call tomorrow for next steps, but any of you experienced anything similar?

I am at software version 11/2022.60, (Stock, no ECU tune or xHP)
M240 xDrive, MY2023, ID8, 3500km on the clock.

some updates....

Plugged in the battery charger, and all sorts of service notes pop up in "my BMW" app, during the late afternoon.
- Battery low needs charge,
- Battery condition critical, need immediate attention&service
- Brakes needs checkup, the car cannot be locked in position.

Car updated "my BMW" app today afternoon, but all warnings which all show up now, is there for the first time. but indicate alerted since March 28th? (No, I can confirm thats not the case )

The whole scenario from incident 1 all smell low battery charge to me, knowing the car have not been used frequently at all, but no low battery charge warning what so ever until now!

Funny enough......after another 1h of charge, all the the battery and brake warnings are now all gone from the "my BMW" app, and no service issues present.

WOW! thanks for highlighting this!

This turns out to be a true Doctor House case in BMW trouble shooting

Started the car this morning wo. problem and took it to the dealer.
Got a slot May 31st for them to look at it..... no hurry there as it seems.
"Until then, flat bed the car over here if the problem comes back"

Will give me some time to take the winter cover from the 911 turbo and start drive that one instead

I will get back with update after the workshop visit.

Do you typically daily the 240? It almost seems like the symptoms might be a weak battery, but that is just a WAG.

And what year/series is your Turbo?

Its not daily driven, it can go weeks in between, so weak battery is certainy one of the suspects.

The P is a 997.1 turbo -07 with manual transmission. The sunday morning backroad choice.

Update, same thing happened a second time, got stranded at the gas station a week ago.
Funny enough just across the street to my BMW dealer.
Unfortunately no option but calling the road assistance to move the car across the street.

After checkup its throwing all sorts of random error codes, and one of them TCB connection error, for which the service instruction is software update.

Long story short, car was updated with latest software 03/2023.53 and back in my driveway today, lets see if this is the solution or more "fun" to come..

Hope that helps. This is the problem with relying on software to use a car these days. Tech is nice when it is called for. The industry thinks software controlling a car is something consumers want. They call it “autonomous driving.” Yeah I think I’ll pass on that…..
