M240i getting faster.....M2 fast?

Now with almost 2000 miles under her wheels she seems to be freeing up nicely.

0-60 MPH

Eighth mile

0-100 MPH

Can't see the M2 being any quicker (or even as quick) even with a claimed extra 90BHP>

AWD is what gives it the edge out of the blocks. Since we're forum racing, unless you're tuned, the M2 will catch and pass you just before or after the 1/4 mile, drivers being equally skilled and both automatics.

Off a slower 0-60 of 3.72 she managed the quarter in 11.7 at 116 MPH.

If I had been able to keep the 3.3 0-60 run going I reckon 11.5 may have been possible.

m240ix's AWD is faster off the line, but is lacking at pickup at more typical track speeds. The G42 loses to the G87 in roll races for that reason.

The carwow M2 vs M240ix sums up the differences between the car on the straight line pretty soundly:

True.

But put both cars together at, say, 50 mph in 5th gear, and the M240i will walk away from an M2.....which probably catches up at around 100MPH.

The B58 has more grunt at lower revs and less power at higher revs.

Very nice. 3.7 to 3.9 seems to be the typical 0 to 60 range for these cars.

The 11.7 quarter is really good, above average

Close.

I call it the £30 tune.

A used JB+ from Ebay set to the default 3 O'Clock position.

Supposedly adds an extra 3.5PSI of boost. Much quicker when using the paddles in M mode. 60-80 MPH in 6th took just 4.1 seconds (Dragy).....pulling hard from a paltry 2000 RPM.

How about this run chaps.

Balls out up to about 110 MPH then coasting for the last 100 yards or so before finishing the quarter mile at 100 MPH. Check out the blue line on the graph and you can see the car slowing down..... 11.79 seconds with rollout.

I’m more interested in how it handles.

How does it handle?

Well, It has enormous grip which you would expect, but the steering is quite numb and the overall handling generally 'uninvolving'

It simply goes where it is pointed. An M2 would be more 'fun'.

I'll post the Dragy data again.

No idea why it disappears after a while.

Having owned both cars, and having modded both cars, and having raced a M240i in a nearly identical scenario, I can confidently say this is completely wrong.

From a 50 roll the M2 jumps out almost immediately and never stops pulling. That single turbo in the M240i gets choked out in the upper rev range.

From a dig the M240i loses any AWD advantage after 30mph. Once I get a radial on the back of the M2 I don't even thing that advantage will exist anymore.

The M240i is an awesome car, but it doesn't have anywhere near the top end power of the M2.

I haven't tested this, but I'd be willing to bed that I'd beat my modded M240i in my M2 without the racechip even activated.

The best quarter mile I was ever able to achieve was 11.7 at 118 in my M240i on a semi prepped concrete runway. This is with a JB4, AA DPs, and Eventuri intake.

I have the same exact mods on my M2 except I have a Racechip instead of a JB4. If we get a decently warm day here I'll run the quarter mile time with my draggy for comparison. I'd imagine my car will be super low 11s, might even be able to get it into the 10s.

For what it's worth, I'm not super into drag racing. I prefer roll racing which is why I stepped up to the M2.

Here's a data point. I did Racemotive last September in my M240i and my best trap speed was 118mph. I did the same event in October this year in my M2 and my best trap speed was 140mph. This is starting from below 65.99.

11.3@122mph was my best time on my old setup on a JB4 with E30. 11.5@119mph on 93

My new car should be a little faster once tuned.
