Love my new x3m!!!
Hello everyone, new to the forum......
here is my true story....... I met someone who had a 2020 911 4S, (long story made shorter) He let me commute to work with this car which is 3.5 hours round trip....... I loved the car and the way it handled, had that crisp fast sports car feeling. So thought I wanted one, but at 180k it was expensive (for me anyway). Could not shake the feeling being 52 of wanting another sports car, (had a z4) years ago. But needed a practical car as well and did not want a suv and a sports car, I have a 3.5i x3 2011, not a sports car, but quickish with 300hp. I bought a new 2020 X3M, not the competition, think the ride might be harder with 40 profile and 21inch wheels, and 30hp more when you already have 473hp is not really noticeable at all, not worth the 7k more. bought a (competition) badge on ebay and put it on the back....lol...true, only a purist would have to look hard for the differences..... So this car fills all my needs for speed comfort and practicality, I feel so privileged to have this car. It (for me) really had the same exciting Porsche 911 feeling of speed, (this is faster than the 911 4s, but a bit slower than the turbo s which i also drove to 310kmph. Felt solid at that speed, and my x3m feels very good at 270kmph, have the M package so not limited to 250kmph. love this car and really does everything so well. So many complaints from everyone and critics about the ride quality, it is not that bad at all, and will accept the occasional bump for the tremondous grip and agility this car has. and cost 2/3 cheaper than the 911, so for the money is an absolute bargain. The adaptive cruise is an excellent drivers tool to be on the highway, very handy and all the other high tech gadgets this car has. Anybody else have a similar experience with their x3M vehicle? thanks for reading. D. |

They are great vehicles. I'd question why put a Competition emblem on the vehicle that is not a competition. If you thought the pkg was not with the extra $7k, why pretend you have it? The M is formidable enough, be happy with it.

Add a tune or a piggyback and you will have the same performance as the Comp...

As I've owned dozens of performance cars over the years and this occurs all the time. My question is what is the sole purpose of the emblem/badge on a vehicle? It's to display what that vehicle is (model/trim/etc.). So the only reason to put another emblem on a vehicle is to deceive others as to what the vehicle is. If there's no difference between them, then no reason to add the Competition emblem, you should be happy with just the M version.

Very tight tolerances and germans engineer things to a specific end. Modding/tuning in any way will throw those tolerances out the window and the car will shit itself. You're accelerating wear and tear and it'll cost you. Now if you dont care about warranty and plan on paying for everything out of pocket, then I feel this doesnt apply. I've posted on other threads I have personally witnessed the local dealer cancel the warranty for an m3 that was on aftermarket springs when the dealer couldnt make the alignment stick. I'm personally dealing with a lot of crap because the dealer is blaming aftermarket speakers on things that have absolutely no connection whatsoever, but you'll never win against the dealers. But i obviously have bad luck, yours may be better. |

Modding vs warranty, and modding vs longevity are completely different things. I’ve been modding my BMWs since 2002. I’ve never experienced any notable failure from modding. Albeit I am fairly conservative in how I mod. My e36 M3 is a FBO car amongst other things and has been it’s entire life. The engine internals and head gasket are still original and it’s currently sitting at 242k miles.

Congrats on your X3M!
I had a 2020 Non Comp and then got a 2021 Comp and there is a noticeable difference. I now have a 2022 X3MC one of my favorite cars ever. Enjoy your car! |

To mod or not to mod, that is the question. For me, modding is about taking advantage of great engineering (BMW) and driving them the way they were meant to be driven. The more power you make really is inconsequential until it's not. What do i mean, doing constant launches with higher power or even stock power is putting tremendous stress on the drivetrain including everything so expect this to have consequence. If you do a basic stage 2 set up with ots or custom tune and drive it hard but not abusive my guess is it'll last a very long time with proper maintenance. Good luck!

2) Modifications WILL NOT increase value. I just looked for an X3Mc and had no interest in ones w/ mod's, especially HP mods. I just sold a 70's z-28. People want original. About to sell a tastefully mod'ed Porsche 968 - my upgrades will likely hurt the price. JMHO. |

Stealership will find any excuse to weasel out of a warranty claim. I also don’t like silver trim around windows and grille etc
