F80 to a 2020 X3m
Posting in a new section now
Just made the swap 2 days ago from a 2017 M3 to a 2020 X3m non comp. Wow what a difference in creature comforts the x3 has! yet still has just enough M "edge" for me. Not sure why some say the ride in the x3m is so horrible. coming from a F80 its cushy and eats up bad roads much better. curious how many other here have made a similar move? Anyway here's a pic of my new ride. BTW got a rock chip in the windshield literally 5 minutes after driving off the lot |

I was an original owner of an ‘02 E46 M3 SMG II from ‘02 to ‘11, then original owner of ‘11 E90 M3 DCT ZCP from ‘11 to ‘23, yes I’m a buy and keep guy! Now I’m original owner of ‘23 X3M Comp. I find them remarkably similar in so many ways. Of course I realize I’m in an SUV now. But I am quite happy as a 20+ year M3 owner to be driving the X3M now. I absolutely love it! The S58C is amazing! I’m sure non-comp just as sweet.

I agree, the ride is stiff but not too stiff (subjective). It's an SUV M, not sure how they would get this performance result without it being stiff.

Super jealous of the color! I was about to get one from Northern Cali, same color, but it ended up selling by the time I made up my mind. It lives rent free in my head all the time :-(

I also came from a F80 and like you said the additional comfort and features are very good for daily driving. I do miss the F80 sometimes as it was a manual transmission.

Not a move but recently added a X4M comp to my F83 and M240. Also Sophisto grey or known as dark graphite in the US.
Agree with you wholly regarding the creature comforts. Although the F83 was not so harsh a ride. Different suspension setup apparently to the F80 and F82 |

The X3M is so interesting how it blends what we like about the F8x into a suv. The trade off's are well worth it in my book. My f80 had some kind of mild tune on it when I bought it and I found myself rarely using its " full power" mostly because the traction was so bad it was to sketchy in most situations. But how the X3m puts down the power its just so good. I also don't even mind the amount of road noise the x3m has...thing is a wolf in sheep's clothing indeed. |

Congrats and interesting observation. I find the ride in my 23 X3M to be a lot harsher than my previous 22 M3. Doesn’t bother me but I find I’m constantly bouncing up in the seat over minor road imperfections. I think they nailed the handling/ride quality in my 24 X5M.

Regarding the opinion of the harsh ride in the X3/4Ms. As widely covered on the forum, a set of Michelin PS4s and some Eibach pro lowering springs sorted mine out nicely, both lowering 20-25mm allround and improving the ride comfort noticeably.
Well worth it when also adding some mild 10mm spacers to also improve the overall stance and wheel / arch gaps. |

A few others have equally used 12mm spacers. Preference really. A nice 3 piece front splitter just finished the front off too. IMO obviously. Last edited by ajbM4cab; 02-02-2024 at 04:14 AM.. |

18 M2 to 21 M2C to 20 X3M here for me. I can now pick up my kids with considerable ease and have the ability to still enjoy winter. Our local municipality has become incredibly lazy with plowing so the X3M is perfect. Just missing my 6MT, we'll see how long I can tolerate the auto as a DD.
