I crashed my E90
this happend 1 month ago. I changed from 1 lane to 2 and didn t notice that in front waz a car stop at a stop! I had like ~60km/h pus the brake but the distance where to short and hit him.
The car haden`t serious damage : left whing , left xenon , left bumper , hood ,and some other minor stuff The radiator wazn t hit,or the water pump. I`m asking you .. the airbags shouldn t have deployd ?? THANK Where are the senzor for the airbags? in the front spoiler? The car had only whan error : hood open |

hard to tell.... the hood looks to have taken the brunt rather than the bumper... you hit the back of a pickup truck or something??

my car was in waranty till december 2008 so no more waranty.....The guys at the service tool me that the speed was to low and the hit was that hard so the "car" consider that the airbags shoudn t have been deployed.
But now i m affraid if i hit the car at a bigger speed like 80km/h will the airbags deployed |

airbags utilized accelerometers to measure g's. When you crash into something there are a lot of g forces being exerted on your car and you etc. So basically there is a limit that the airbags deploy so you were below the limit.

The Airbag Control Unit (ACU) is constantly fed with signals from numerous sensors, including accelerometers, impact sensors, side (door) pressure sensors, wheel speed sensors, gyroscopes, brake pressure sensors, and seat occupancy sensors. Read halfway through this page, the section on "How Airbags Work" and "Triggering Conditions". I found it enlightening. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbag. To quote the article: "Today, airbag triggering algorithms are becoming much more complex. They try to reduce unnecessary deployments (for example, at low speed, no shocks should trigger the airbag, to help reduce damage to the car interior in conditions where the seat belt would be an adequate safety device), and to adapt the deployment speed to the crash conditions. The algorithms are considered valuable intellectual property. Experimental algorithms may take into account such factors as the weight of the occupant, the seat location, seat belt use, and even attempt to determine if a baby seat is present." |

ouch that looks pretty bad but perhaps the airbags didnt go off cos the crash occured at a speed that was low enough that the airbags are not required. glad youre ok thuogh.
