Help: Found black box sliced into ecu

Does anyone know what this box in the pictures is? I took my 2007 335i into have a check engine light serviced and the BMW tech found this box sliced into the harness with DUCT TAPE! Needless to say my warranty is now void. Can anyone tell me what it is and why the previous owner of my car would be dumb enough to install it?

did you buy the car from them? i have no clue what that was but id be pissed if they voided my warranty because of something installed by the previous owner.

Kind of hard to tell but it looks like a JB2.

Never seen anything like it before. If you know how to find the pin numbers on the connectors, that would help us tell you what functions it is intercepting.

Now that I hit up the Bimmer BURGER King, I'm pretty sure that's a JB2.

need to contact who owned before...looks like a JB1/JB2 piggy...if u can show the tech u are not the orig owner of car, can prob get out of it

To the OP, that really sucks! I guess, people have to be careful about private sales because of possible modification.

I've seen some threads where people have found JB3s and Procedes.

JB1, only 2 pins connected to ecu. JB2 has more pins to connect

yeah leave it in..they arent gonna un-void ur warranty just because it wasn't you that mod'ed the car. You would have to go after the seller for failing to disclose.

JB1 for sure. Tell him its only 2 psi over stock, which is less than the PPK or 335is has.
