GIAC flashed cars in L.A. area
I had my 335i coupe flashed with GIAC stage 1 this week and love it. Are there any other GIAC flashed cars in the Los Angeles area? I am interested in your impressions of the flash.

Newbie in the LA/OC.. Just got an 08 335i coupe.. With a CPO warranty, that I don't really want to void, is the GIAC flash the best bet? Or do I have any options that might keep me under warranty in case something happens?

Weird, just looked at Speed Gallery's website and they say they do Dinan flashes... nothing about GIAC.

It looks like a great flash tune but I'm not sure you understand what happens when the ECU is flashed. With a flash tune the ECU knows the true boost value and that value is stored in the freeze frame data of any fault you happen to throw. So it's plainly obvious to the technician that the car is modified because the boost level recorded is higher than the stock level. And of course if a PUMA case is ever opened the ECU code itself has been modified so that's super easy to spot as well. If you load back to the stock flash and then BT clear the modules before going in each time you *should* be OK.

i like the operative term *should* disclaimer: i dont tune or advocate for any tuner or product -- period.. just clarifying some obvious facts -- as i stated a couple of times before, whether you run a flash or a piggyback tune, there is always the likelihood of being caught with your pants/panties down. and again i will say (with no great certainty) that if you have a well engineered flash that does not throw any codes and drives (acts) reasonably well - vs popping the E box on your car and fiddling with the contents, which does leave tell-tale evidence that you have been in the control unit area -- and taking the chance of breaking connectors and other things that may leave physical evidence that you were there -- some folks dont think that techs are saavy enough to recognize that "there is something wrong in Denmark" are bypassing the obvious.. the only thing in the E box are things that are not servicable by the everyday customer. how do you answer that question when it comes up? "its my car and i can/will do anything i wish with it" -- good answer, but that may lead to having to answer other hard questions... sorry of the off topic response .... |

Every case will be different. We have many customers that take their cars to the dealers with software installed and have no issues. Others have worked out options with their GIAC dealers for reflashes to stock prior to dealer visits.

Let's keep it civil please. We have on-site flashing capabilities, feel free to drop by and we'd be more than happy to give you a ride in our GIAC S2-equipped 135.

No it doesn't imply that at all. I'm talking about a VANOS code, a fuel pump code, an EVAP code, a wastegate code, etc. I agree on the civility and I don't believe either of us have said anything to turn this thread otherwise.
