performance driving school

When I ordered my E92 335i on July 9th my CA offered to send me to some type of performance driving school in Charleston, SC. He told me that the school was behind a month so he wasn't sure if i could attend. There's sort of a catch to it though. Here's how he said it works. When the car arrives in the states, the car is sent to Charleston, SC first, then to the ordering dealers. In order to attend the school, I'll have to drive to Charleston, do the performance driving school, than drive my new 335 back home instead of getting on the shipping truck. So if the school is still behind when my car arrives in SC, i'm assuming I can't go. He said I could actually get my car home sooner going this route.
I'm here in georgia and it's a pretty far drive to Charleston. Anyone else get offered this? Is it worth going to? Can I take someone with me? I'll call my CA to get more details.

I just did this last week. It's called performance delivery and it's in Greenville/Spartanburg area, not Charleston so it's actually only a couple of hours away from you. Your car will be shipped there and wait there for your day to pick it up. I could have got my car about 2 weeks earlier had I not done this, but it was worth the wait to go. You are responsible for getting your car home after taking delivery in Spartanburg.

Whoa, so you would've got your car earlier not later if you hadn't gone??? I don't know if I can wait any longer than I have to. What's involved in the school?

Do you drive their training car or your new car in that school?

Would have had the car 7/14 by not going. Picked it up instead on 7/25 in Spartanburg. Here is my original write-up, but in general, you do some turns around a wet skid pad and spin a 335 a few times, perform ABS demos, drive a road course w/slalom, and drive an X5 off road. Plus you get to drive a 650 to the museum and sit in the passenger seat of an M5 while a driving pro does some hot laps (a lot of fun).

In general, you really get a feel for the car's capabilities and get to have a great time to boot. It was worth the wait.

I did the Performance Center Delivery back in May and even though my car was delayed 2 additional weeks, the experience is completely unmatched by anything else. They provide overnight stay at the Marriot including excellent dinner for two, the next day they also provide breakfast. There is a short class room instruciton and then you go out on the track. You drive around in their cars on the skid pad and do all kinds of funky driving. They also took us for a hot lap in the M5 which was phenomenal.

Then they give you the tour of the factory (its closed now for visitors, so not sure what they are doing).
Then finally they deliver you your car. Its in a glass room and they go over every single feature of the car. They spent almost 2 hours going over all sorts of things.

It was by far the most awesome experience ever. And I did it knowing I had a 1200 mile trip back to Texas!!! Well worth it if you are only in Georgia which is not too far from Greer, SC.

Here is my original writeup
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62057

smellthebeans: yes its possible to do ED with PCD. I did my ED in March followed by PCD in May (its a very long start to finish process so you have to be patient). I ordered the car back in Jan.

I did the PCD as well and I'm with Enkur, it's the best experience I've ever had receiving a car. I took my brother and he had so much fun, he ordered a 335i sedan two weeks later. If you do it, request Frederick Valdez ( i think that's his last name) as your delivery specialist. He spent over two hours with me programming my car and going over systems.....And then when you leave that glass room and drive your car out it's just an awesome feeling!

yes, they started allowing both ED & PCD earlier this year. This enables me to sell to people all over the country if they don't mind going to the PC for redelivery.

Interesting... they need to update the FAQ section of the website then -- it still says you can only choose one or the other -- not both.

Yeah... That is the problem with our facility being located in South Carolina and headquarters being in New Jersey. We sometimes become out of sight.

However, we have updated our Bulletin regarding the program. If a dealer goes onto CenterNet, they can print the new bulletin which clearly states that both can currently take place.

You got it! That is the reason we don't speak too loudly about the small things.

See you soon!
