My F15 X5 xDrive50i Build - European OEM+

I love personalizing my cars and, in particular, doing so using lots of OEM forbidden fruit from Europe. I built something pretty unique with my outgoing F10 M5 and knew that with the F15 X5 I wanted to do something similar.

Mods
- BMW 599 M 21" Wheels
- iND Custom Painted Gloss Black Kidney Grilles (for NiVi-equipped cars)
- iND Painted Side Reflectors
- BMW M Performance Brake Kit
- BMW M Performance Front Diffuser (pics coming soon)
- BMW M Performance Rear Diffuser (pics coming soon)
- BMW M Performance Rear Flaps (pics coming soon)
- BMW M Performance Spoiler
- BMW M Performance Pedals
- BMW M Performance Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps
- BMW M Shifter (factory override)
- Fender M Emblems (factory override)
- OEM M50d Front Air Intake Trim
- OEM European Sunvisors
- OEM ECE-spec Adaptive LED headlights (ECE beam pattern)
- OEM ECE-spec Taillights (amber blink, full rear fog)
- OEM Headlamp Switch w/Rear Fog Control
- OEM Premium Carpet Mats
- OEM Warning Triangle with boot clip
- OEM First Aid Kit

This thread will document progress with pictures, etc. A proper photoshoot is coming soon. For now, some teaser pics taken during various stages.

I was hoping to do a retrofit of the 6WB instrument cluster and bought one, but with the ECU changes on the F15 platform it is not currently possible. If/when it is, I'll add that to the list.

Enjoy!

Nice mods. I have my M50d air intake trim soon.
Anyway, do you have the DIY on the shifter removal?

No warning labels.

Just realized I forgot to take a picture of those. I'll do it tonight.

In Germany. $150. Doesn't work properly yet though. Still trying to crack it.

That looks fantastic!

I just ordered a 3.5d Msport...how did you go about getting a "factory override" on the M fender badge and M shifter? Was it something you could request at the dealer level?

Also, you have the ECE taillight (amber signals etc...) were those a retro-fit or done with coding?

Thanks!

Nice X5. Question... Where is the sport button? Or does the new X5 not have one for the Msports? What does the hole in the center of the grill and the driver side grill do? Camera? Sensors? Radar?

I have high-level friends at BMWNA. This isn't something they'll do for a normal customer, unfortunately.

ECE taillights were a retrofit. Unfortunately they're not working properly due to wiring differences between US and RoW vehicles. I have the wiring diagrams and will be fixing this soon.

This is the first time in recent memory I've seen market-specific lamp wiring differences in a BMW. My E9x and F10 cars were simply plug and play - no coding required at all, even to enable rear fogs.

I had the car built this way. The shift lever is out of the M50d.

Well crap, and here I thought I was important; apparently I should start hanging around the dealership more often. LOL.

Ive also been keeping tabs on your coding expeditions with this model, I'm hoping to unlock some of the factory goodness when mine hits the drive in late May.

Haha. Well it's above and beyond the dealership level. Requires override at plant manager level.

But dealer contacts never ever hurt especially if you're going to code.
