Few weeks ago, I saw an X5M with the OEM 21" rims and Pirelli Scorpion ICE (Not winter, seems like Pirelli has two Versions of winter tires = Pirelli Scorpion Winter & Pirelli Scorpion ICE).
Maybe an alternative for those who don't want to invest in winter rims...
Hope it helps.

Hi all -

I am switching from a 2014 M5 to a 2016 X5M in large part because I can't get up my driveway even with snow tires.

I've read all of these threads and would prefer to get the OEM winter set. Amy one have a lead on where I can get one - my dealer has not been able to locate a set.

As a second choice, any suggestions? Seems ridiculous that BMW NA doesn't have enough of these sets on hand in the winter.

TIA

I was a bit frustrated myself...and then I just ordered 275/315 Pirelli Snow & Ice Runflats on the factory 20" wheels. This is the recommended setup for all the non-M F15 X5s. I'll remount the original P Zeros in the spring. The price was $1500 shipped from tirerack, so it's a significant savings over buying the winter wheel/tire set, at the inconvenience of having to mount/remount tires.

My dealer has suggested the 491 winter wheel set up as an option.

Will come with 275/315 Pirelli runflat Scorpion snow and ice tires.

We'll see how they fit.

I considered that set, but the BMW parts website seems to suggest the fronts are 19"? Is that just a typo?

It's a typo. On the F15 forums several people have gotten the set and confirmed that they are 20" front and back. The tires are listed as 20".

That's the OE 20" set. 285s all around with a lower offset in the rear to compensate for the loss of rubber.

I picked by my X5M yesterday with the 491 winter wheel package installed. Although I am not a big fan of black wheels, these look pretty good. I really like the concavity of the rear wheels.

Very cold with some ice on the roads. So far so good but won't get a chance to test it until this weekend when we supposed to get 3-5 in of snow. Already clear that it is a world of difference compared to my M5 with snow tires.

Man those look good! But I am biased on the black wheels

They look great! Good work finding an alternate option for F85/F86.

Noticeably stiffer but as to be expected with a runflat. Regardless, the truck inspires so much confidence as you drive, makes you feel as if its just bulletproof. Granted you still have to be cognizant of potholes as it is still a 21 but the truck is now as usable as ever for the winter. Happy thus far.

Where did you find them? Did you buy them recently or have you been holding on to them?

I haven't been able to find Pirellis winters in 21" stock sizes anywhere in the US. If you have a lead, it would be greatly appreciated.
