Did a quick Google search, not seeing that code anywhere?

Our well optioned 2015 X5d M Sport w/15k miles, had check engine light on, and diagnostics showed exhaust cooler is faulty and being replaced. Plus EGR software update.
Vehicle built JAN-2015, PCD in early February. |

Check Engine Light at 40K
I did some towing the the X5 (Uhaul car trailer with a 49 Overland Willys resto-mod) for about 6 hours through mountain passes and at speeds of 60-75 mph depending on traffic. The X5d did a great job until a few days later after towing. Check engine light (emissions) came on but I couldn't tell any performance difference. Took it to dealer - he said a fault code was set for a valve on the EGR cooler. Replaced cooler. Then before I got it back another code was set this time on the turbo with a waste gate problem, so new complete turbo. One week in the shop and returned. Seems to be running fine, but at 40K I am surprised to have this kind of repair.
Has anyone else replaced both EGR cooler and a turbo under warranty? It also had the EGR software update prior to these fault codes. Is there any connection to low Cetane diesel causing soot build up in these components perhaps resulting in premature failure? |

We run on high quality diesel here in Sweden and I still had all these problems some 5 months after delivery of the car. Even had a broken thermostath making it all worse.
During this Winter, when it was below freezing, the rear of the car would turn completely back from all the soot coming out of the exhaust. Never seen this on any vehicle Before, so no wonder the EGR valve clogged up a while later. BMW is priding themselves in strong engnines with Little fuel consumption. This however comes at the cost of reliability, and this is what we now are suffering. It's not that Toyota don't know how to make their Engines strong and efficent, they just chose to make them last instead. |

Almost a week now and they still have my car....I will hopefully get it back today and can report all they did. I thought this would be a simple O2 sensor issue but its turned into a lot more. So much for Diesels being the "reliable" engines

well they replaced "both" coolers(thought there was only one) and then went to pick it up. They found coolant on the floor after they brought it up and then said looks like a leak in the hoses, so sent me back in my x3 loaner and I am still waiting. Kind of annoying but I want it fixed right and I figure new coolers is a nice thing to have.

2014 Msport it has been 2 weeks now in the dealer. Egr sensor replaced, solenoid cleaned, now 3rd time CEL dealer is removing a cooler. I asked which one and he could not tell me. Dealer removed the cooler to take photos and have not made a determination to replace.
It is kind of like dealing with insurances. |

A few days ago my '14 X5d with just under 49K miles decided to show me its check engine light. Second day at the dealer and the SA advises they have ordered a replacement EGR cooler, expected in tomorrow.
I asked the SA what was wrong with the EGR cooler and he read me some of the tech's notes, which indicated they concluded the EGR cooler was operating a "low efficiency", which I expect would mean it's not cooling sufficiently or not flowing sufficiently. Now if this is a one time problem resolved by replacing the EGR cooler, that's fine (things happen). Being that warranty ends in about 1000 miles, though, I'm concerned if this is the tip of an emissions control iceberg; e.g. CBU. What questions should I be asking to try and determine if this is just part of a bigger problem? |

Interestingly, none of the BMW plans cover emissions systems components, except the DEF dosing module and pump. |

Bought a new 2016 Tacoma V6 Limited. Multiple problems. Took it in for its first oil change and it was in the shop for 4 months due to an oil leak in the trans or differential. Apparently it was a safety issue. Got a 4 Runner for a loaner BUT not what I wanted or bought. Traded it for a new 2017 X5 D at 80K loaded which I love. Tows way better than the Taco too. We'll see, at 15,000 miles a check engine light is on. Appointment next week.Still runs like a German watch. |
